TacHel
The Sacrifice Medal was created to recognize a member of the Canadian Forces, a member of an allied force, or a Canadian civilian under the authority of the Canadian Forces who, as of October 7, 2001, died or was wounded under honourable circumstances as a direct result of hostile action. This is a link to the web site of the Governor General of Canada for this particular award, as far as I know, no info or pictures there have any copyright unless clearly specified from outside agencies.Governor General of CanadaCheers! Gordon Craig
Frank,Interesting post. I looked at the GGs site and it only indicates how a member of the armed forces would start proceedings for the award of this medal. In the case of the Canadian Diplomat who was killed by an IDE in Afghanistan last year, I wonder how Foreign Affairs would initiate their proceedure?Regards,Gordon

Thanks for the info...Unaware, but not that surprised... We have what is probably the worst award system in the free World! Another example of a completely botched award is our General Campaign Cross. In my opinion, it's an obscenity! But I digress and am swerving off topic. TacHel
The first award of the Canadian "Sacrifice Medal" will be made in November 2009 following an extensive review and amendment of the award prerequisites. Governor General of Canada Michaëlle Jean will present the first ones this month. A heated debate had developed over the award criteria, only personnel wounded or killed while facing an hostile force were eligible. This has now been expanded as follows: Criteria for award of the "Sacrifice Medal": - Death or injuries sustained as a result of hostile action; and - Death while in military service (since Oct. 7 2001), training, rescue etc.
