    Question on Kaiserabzeichen / Königsabzeichen

    Recommended Posts

    Charles,

Yes, they were, though it is seldom seen in period photos. They were ordered to be removed from the field uniform shortly after the war began. I have seen several of them dated 1913.

Attached is a 1907 Bavarion Rock to the 3rd FussArtillerie with prize attached.

The prize is 1913 (or 1912) dated. Rock is buried at the moment and I can not tell from photo.

The rock started out life as an Infantry Rock to the 19th Bav Inf and then was expertly changed to Fussartillirie when the 3rd was formed.

I won't say I'm actually convinved that the prize is 100% original to the rock. It does not have a cloth backing--but does have the metal plate on the inside of the sleeve.

Four Gefreiter of Niedersächsisches Feld-Artillerie-Regt. Nr.46 (Wolffenbüttel/Celle). The number on the shoulder strap and date on the preis are difficult to read... But 2. Battarie won the preis in 1913; the card is dated March 1914 from Wolffenbüttel.

"Erinnerung an die 14 täg. Jäger Uebung - Colmar i/E den 22./6./13 - Rheinländer" (Commemoration of the 14 days Rifles Training in Colmar, 22 June 1913)

The Jäger with the shako, in the centre, wears the rare Kaiser/Königsabzeichen for Jäger on his right upper sleeve (there were only 19 Jäger and Schützen battalions in the Imperial Army.

All men belong to the Grossherzogl. Mecklenburger Jäger-Bataillon Nr.14
