JapanX Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 With my new scanner ( ) we can examine every tiny detail of these crosses
JapanX Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 Ok. Now something really cool and completely new! (strictly for those why are not sleeping ) Check out this piece. Woman suspension (old style) made in bronze!!! Looks like in the end there were ribbons ;)
Dieter3 Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 (edited) Furry beauty ... Great color on that material!! What do you think it is? Felt? Yeah, dunno about that ribbon for this medal though! I've seen a lot of these actually, including special member's ribbon, especially woman's since it is so easy to change the original medal! Gotta admit, it is cool though! Edited September 10, 2012 by Dieter3
JapanX Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 Great color on that material!! What do you think it is? Felt? Yep, looks (and feels ) like felt. Yeah, dunno about that ribbon for this medal though! I've seen a lot of these actually, including special member's ribbon, especially woman's since it is so easy to change the original medal! Gotta admit, it is cool though! The suspension is made from the same material as medal! (although I won't scratch ) The ribbon is from the right time period too
JapanX Posted October 11, 2012 Author Posted October 11, 2012 Quite unbelievable news. We already saw the woman suspension made in bronze ... Now it looks like there were bronze pieces that were silver colored!!! Check this out.
JapanX Posted October 11, 2012 Author Posted October 11, 2012 Have you ever saw something like that?! Better pictures will be posted as soon as I get the piece Cheers, Nick
Dieter3 Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 Looks like somebody might have plated it, I very much doubt it was produced like this, but perhaps there were a few unique ones made for special individuals? You can see what appears to be the bronze corroding through, or perhaps an entirely different alloy! Interesting......
JapanX Posted October 11, 2012 Author Posted October 11, 2012 Looks like somebody might have plated it ... What makes you say such terrible things?
Dieter3 Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 I'd have to have it in hand, but unless it was an alloy of some kind, silver doesn't corrode like that! Gotta have copper in it somewhere and maybe nickel-plated?
JapanX Posted October 11, 2012 Author Posted October 11, 2012 (edited) Silver never corrode, it's patinated And this green thing on obverse (right at the bottom) is not corrosion, but oxidation Looks "ok" to me. At least it looks pretty damn old.... But then again I've never had this piece in my hands .... So at the end it could be nickel, copper or something else ... Edited October 11, 2012 by JapanX
fukuoka Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 What may appear to be bronze corroding through is merely the lighting--or rather a shadow. There is not a hint of bronze anywhere on the medal. Of course, this is an alloy, not pure silver. It is has a silver-color plating, but not a silver plating. I'm assuming, like Dieter mentioned, that this was produced for special people. But that is merely an assumption.
