    Gents,

I can now confirm an eleventh Red Army recipient of the Legion of Merit in the degree of Chief Commander - Army General Ivan D. Chernyakhovskiy.  Chernyakhovskiy commanded 3rd Belorussian Front at the time he was killed in action on February 18, 1945, in East Prussia.  President Truman approved Chernyakhovskiy's posthumous Legion of Merit award on May 22, 1946.

I have updated my book to reflect this important new addition.

    Regards,

    Gents,

A real unicorn.  One of only two confirmed Red Army female recipients of a U.S. Army decoration in World War II.

Guards Senior Lieutenant Valentina P. Komarova was assigned to the 86th Guards Rifle Division when it linked up with the U.S. 26th Infantry Division in Czechoslovakia in May 1945.  She was awarded the Legion of Merit in the degree of Legionnaire.  Komarova served as an admin officer in the division headquarters' 4th Department.

She is highlighted in the reference book We Were Allies Once - U.S. Army Decorations Awarded to Red Army Personnel in World War II.

    Regards,
