An interesting bit of history (a form of marketing from a time and place where I was not expecting this) - a bio of General Jamyan from the 1951 pre-"election" campaign for the People's Great Hural (Communist parliament). Compared to the later bios, this one gives more details on what he has been doing until he joined the army. A scan of the poster (original b&w A3 size) is also attached.

    ==============================

    Jambyn Jamyan

    Photo of Jamyan

Jambyn Jamyan was born at Bagh #5 of Buyant soum of Hovd province in 1916. Jamyan’s parents were poor herders and Jamyan lived in poverty prior to the People’s revolution.

Jamyan lived with his parents until the age of eleven. Since then and until the age of 18, he worked as a messenger for the local postal service and also led the camel trade caravans. From the age of 18, he worked as the salesman of the first people’s store and later he became the Mongolian language teacher.

Comrade Jamyan enrolled the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party in 1941. Since 1935, Jamyan  has been serving for the Mongolian Armed Forces. He has particularly contributed to the cause of strengthening border security of our Motherland and the matter of upbringing and training our border guards. Comrade Jamyan studied at the Central school of Ministry of Internal Affairs in Ulaanbaatar from 1936-1938 and also studied at the Soviet Border Guards School from 1938-1940.

After returning from the Soviet Union, Jamyan served as the Chief of the Human Resource Division of the Border Guards Department from 1940-1945. From 1945-1948, comrade Jamyan studied at the Soviet Military Academy and since his graduation, he has been working as the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs in charge of military matters. Jamyan, brought up by our revolutionary army, is one of our outstanding comrades. He has devoted all his strength to the revolutionary military service.

Comrade Jamyan was decorated several times with orders and medals of the MPR.  The border guards of Ovoot border guard unit and herders of Bagh #6 of Noyon soum put forward comrade Jamyan as the candidate to the election of People’s Great Hural.

    Dear comrades!

Let’s vote for the candidate colonel Jambyn Jamyan! Let’s vote for comrade Jamyan recommended by the members and non-members of MPRP.

And some more items related to Jamyan arrived

    1) Badge of the 60th anniversary of foundation of MPR. The badge has a VIP document awarded in 1984.

    2) Badge of Military Glory of Mongolian Youth Union (successor of Mongolian Revolutionary Youth Union). The badge has a document awarded in 2000.

    3) Souvenir plaque of 1979 auto rally "Friendship" hosted by the Defense auxiliary society (headed by Jamyan). The rally was held on the 50th anniversary of  Defense auxiliary society and involved Mongolian and Soviet teams that traveled from Ulan-Ude (USSR) to the battle cites of Khalkhin Gol.

    4) Magazine of Defense auxiliary society dated 1979 which features articles of prominent people including Jamyan himself. On the inside page of the front cover, the magazine has a stamp of the society and a handwritten inscription that reads " Defense auxiliary society of MPR". Included is a page that shows the itinerary (roadmap) of the above mentioned Friendship auto rally.

Immense amounts of material related to this Jamyan group which I've not yet posted and will show some of this.

The VERY big and heavy badge is from the Defense Auxiliary Society.

Underneath it is a load of post cards that belonged to Lt. Gen. Jamyan. Scan of some of them...

Scan "Postcard 1": shows a New Year greeting from Chairman of Bulgarian Parliament Stanko Todorov (his original signature is present). Envelope is missing. The same scan show a March 8 postcard from Mongolian Women's Committee. It has Jamyan's name written on top of the card. Beautiful Mongolian made card. The Front is not shown on the scan.

Scan "Postcard 2": shows a Mongolian postcard with a women. Inside page bears three unidentified signatures. There is a postcard with Mongolian 1960 Coats of Arms with a hand signature of P.Ochirbat (then Minister of Mining and Geology and later President of Mongolian People's Republic /I hope I am not wrong but will let you know with confirmation/) and a blue New Year greeting card from UB MPRP committee (signed).

Scan "Postcard 3":  Shows signed 1980 New Year Card with the depiction of the Government House and Statue of Sukhbaatar. Below this post card is a 1985 New Year Greeting card from the Member of Politburo of Central Committee of MPRP and First Secretary of UB party commitee B. Altangerel. (Top number 3 guy in Party system back in 1980s). The card is not signed, probably carried a name card which is, unfortunately, missing.

Scan "Postcard 4": Show a Supreme Soviet building and USSR Coats of Arms on cover page and a New Year Greeting with a facsimile signature of a Soviet official. There is also 1983 New Year greeting Mongolian card.

Scan "Postcard 5": Shows New Year greeting to a member of the 18th Party Congress (of which Jamyan was a delegate and 60 Year to Police greeting card from the Party committee of Ministry of Public security)

Scan "Postcard 6": Post card of two Soviet Cosmonauts Belyaev and Leonov with their original signatures on the front. Belyaev's signature is well preserved as he signed in ballpoint pen. Leonov's is partially missing as his signature is done in ink. (I compared the signatures over the internet, they are original).  Below this card, is post card issued in 1981 on occasion of the Mongol-Soviet space flight. It has no signatures.

Many of the postcards are high-end top government/party postcards that were not in sale and were made only of the order of the party committee and state organization.

Almost never ending trickling in of Jamyan related items continues... now some documents and one medal ("World Peace Council" written in French on reverse, looks like 30th anniversary badge).IMG_1759.JPGIMG_1761.JPGIMG_1762.JPG

    1. Document for the Order of the Glory Star of the Mongolian Defense Auxcilliary Society. Awarded to Jamyan in 2001.

    2. Greeting Card frm the Chinese Ambassador Lee Zuitsin. The greeting card is hand signed. The Ambassador's name card is attached.

    3. 1981 New Year Card by a North Korean Official. Hand signed.

    4. Invitation to attend meeting on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of MPR. Dated Nov 10. 1984.

    5. Invitation to attend the reception on the occasion of the same event.

The World Peace Council seems to be an interesting organization dating back to the cold war:

"Jamyan also headed the Mongolian Association of Wrestlers from 1961-1981"

I originally thought he was wearing a Jugoslav order on his right side, but now believe that this is actually an award of the international wrestling federation: http://www.fila-wrestling.com/

And almost 15 years later this award popped up on a market in Mongolia and through good luck it found it way to me to be reunited with the rest of Jamyan’s awards in my collection.

The manufacturer (Bertoni) is Italian and also produced the football world cup and european champions leqgue trophies for example.
