Hi,
Sorry for bothering you
I decided to contact you direct to keep the privacy
From your last listing on the Bulgarian Order for Bravery I noticed that the picture had the name of German dealer who i had deals in the past. Sadly he closed his business
I kept in touch for a while with his co-author of couple of books - Thomas Kuhn
Are you Uwe Bretzendorfer or his relative.?
I will be glad if i have a news about Uwe
Kind Regards
Graf
-
Thank you Graf,
for writing to me.
Yes, I am Uwe Bretzendorfer from Ludwigsburg, with whom you have done business in the past.
I closed my business a few years ago because of health problems.
But - thank God - I have overcome these problems and I have a lot of fun again with orders and decorations as a collector. So it will be a great pleasure for me if you and I can talk about all kinds of discussions in the future with you..
My English is still terrible, but the Internet has made great progress - unlike me.And I would be a happy man if we can address each other as Uwe and Peter.
I translated it with "DeepL" and i hope you can understand it.
Kind regards
Uwe

Hi Uwe,
Thank you for the reply.
It is great that this health problem is no longer an issue for you and you enjoy collecting
You had a nice items in you shop.
I focused my collecting to Bulgarian Orders and decorations I manged to get some very rare items That is mine main focus. Also rare models of French legion of Honour and Belgium Orders,..... and some single Orders from Europe
I sold most of my German Iron Cross, especially the WW2 Period. Here in Australia, unfortunately the Government, under pressure from certain groups, started campaign against WW2 German Items They banned and made criminal offense if someone display WW2 German items Crazy times.
I kept some rare 1914 1st Class Iron Crosses and single items from 1870 and 1957 period
During the Pandemic the last two years Australia was locked down to the rest of the world for 2 years The only way to go overseas was to apply for special permission Melbourne at the same time became the most lock down city in the world Crazy times I stopped the collecting since it was difficult to buy from overseas. Also it look the market is very slow.at the moment
Otherwise apart from some small mental issues in the family, due to those lengthy lock downs, the life is getting slowly back to normal.
I am very happy to get in touch with you If you want I can send you mine personal email for direct contact
Kind Regards
Peter.

- Deutschritter About Oberst / General , Alfred Arent I found the following : The 21st September 1899 by decree of President Julio Argentino Roca then Argentine President was decided to contract the " retired Cavalry Colonel of the German Army " to organize the Escuela Superior de Guerra ( General Staff School ) . the rank of Argentinian Army General was not mentioned in the decree, of interest is to mention that the decree asigned 600 gold Argentinian pesos to Colonel Arent for expenses for him and his fellow officers contracted

Deutschritter , I understand that the 600 gold pesos were for the voyage and other costs . not only of Colonel Arent but also of Kornatzki and Roldan von Strunk. otherwise an yearly or monthly payment must have been stated . a Gold peso of 1899 was equal to 2, 28 Pesos Moneda Nacional which were equivalent to a US dollar . then Colonel Arent received 600 Us dollars , roughly 2 400 Reichsmarks . a good amount

Thanks for that. 2.400 Reichsmark at that time ... not bad! Do you know more about this Roldan von Strunk? I couldn't find anything about him. Here are some of the names I have, if you can add anything, that would be great:

Deutschritter ,please excuse me, Roldan von Strunk or Roland was not part of Colonel s Arent mission . by via of a lapsus of mine i included his name. Strunk was an ex officer in the AH Cavalry during WW1 of Prussian birth and after the War in the Freikorps and Black Reichswehr , friend of Hitler he served as counselor to the Nationalists during the Spanish Civil War . The member of the Arent mission was Bertrand Schunck. Your data about the German Officers that served in the Argentinian Army is better than the available in the Archives of the Argentinian Army Historical Service . Herzliche Bayerische Grusse !

Dear ChrisW,
Great follow up on the photo! What persistence to keep looking until you were able to identify Ali Mahmoud Showery and provide such a detailed biography, bravo! I did not want to clutter up the thread or section by stealing the visibility of your addition with a simple recognition of your having done the work.
Cheers,
Rusty

Hi,
You have a miniature of GC of LOH on Ebay.fr.
I am interested in this miniature , however I am not sure whether you can send to Australia.
Also are you happy to sell it direct and What will be your Total to Australia
Best Regards
Peter
-
Hello Peter, good to get in touch again.
Shipping to Australia seems to be a problem for the moment as you're not on the list of countries which I can ship to, but sometime in the future things should be normal again.
I'm normally quite reluctant to close auctions as I hate when others do so. But as we have dealt before I believe I can do so, but I would ask the listing price plus postage and the 4% PayPal fee (a bank transfer is without fees within EU so that's why PayPal isn't listed as an option). If this is of interest we can do so but when you'll receive it is unclear, your guess is as good as mine. I may also have a Bulgarian Medal of Merit in Silver mini which perhaps could be of your interest?
Kind regards, Lars
-
Hi Lars,
Thank you for the reply
The reason I asked you is because our Government put 10% Tax on all sales from overseas on Ebay.
However if there are any doubts for the Post simply forget it I will leave for times better the now.
It looks like the Post in some parts of Europe does not include Australia at the moment
It is nice to have the mini, however it is not a must
Good Luck with the sales.. I noticed you listed several miniatures
Regards
Peter

Is this correct: https://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/forum/wehrmacht-era-militaria/general-wehrmacht-awards/11655052-ek2-non-combat-hindy#post11665788
I thought the Hindy with swords was for those serving outside Germany. And the EK2 was awarded on black/white ribbon to all military personnel, at the front and at home.

Hello Great Dane,
Beautifull photo, I do not remember I had seen the Silver Jubilee Wedding Medal of Queen Margrethe II in color.
Maybe one day I can get one, but recent royal commemorative medals from Denmark are rare on market.
If ever you know one person, who could have such a medal for sale, my email is emmanuelhalleux@hotmail.com
Regards.

Hi Emmanuel,
I'll keep an eye open, but they are hard to find. As you probably know, the nos. awarded for the various jubilee, birthday and commemoration medals vary wildly, depending on who the monarch decides should be 'in scope'. Like from the Queen's 50th birthday medal (26 awarded) to the 70th birthday medal (450 awarded).
I don't have the award nos. for many of the newer ones.
Auction house Bruun Rasmussen had a selection for auction last year (I think) from one of the Queen's lady-in-waiting who passed away. Those medals went for hysterical prices - probably because most of them hadn't been on the market before.
-
I know Bruun Rasmussen, but the shipping policy is not that always simple.
I bought from them only ounce, and to avoid problem, I went to Copenhagen by my self, taking 1st morning flight, then last evening flight to return Bruxelles.
I also this that, to have the occasion to do a few others things in Copenhagen, as there is (was) still a shop with a few medals on that time. And that day I catch a Civil Defense Long Service Medal + a Danish Peacekeeping Group for Bosnia, so I was quiet happy.
I bet by a middlemen, I got from Rasmussen, the Queen Margrethe II 70th Anniversary. But I paid 2000 €. The seller told me, that a prince Hendrik Memorial Medal had recently been for sale for about 5000 € (but I was not able to buy that one). The 2 Medal for Queen Ingrid 50th Anniversary of Arrival & Memorial medal 2000, plus the Queen Margrethe II Silver Jubilee 1997 and the Frederick IX Centenary Medal, I got them though a middlemen who knew an ex danish royal household retiree on Spanish Riviera. And these 4 costed me much much less (about 600 € each).
The Queen Margrethe II 50th Birthday, with a so low mintage, I bet, it's out of reach.
With all the havoc due to coronavirus, I do not even know if I will ever be able to go Copenhagen again....
I do not know if you have also connection for swedish medal, but in Sweden I miss only the King Carl XVI Gustav 50th Birthday Medal 1996. I ounce bidded on one in a Kuenker auction. Even my bid was high, someone from the auction called me, to be sure I wished to confirm my bid, .....which I did, but I was overbid. It was Kuenker June 2012, I left a bid of 1800 €, and it was sold for 1900.
Regards.

Ahh... you have a couple that I'm still missing... ?
As should probably be obvious from my postings, I collect Danish medals and orders (I'm a Dane who emigrated to Canada about 7 years ago).
I'm a member of the board of the Orders and Medals Society of Denmark (OMSD) and the website (omsd.dk) is my creation... not many other 'technical' people in that group ?
I haven't had any trouble getting items shipped from Bruun Rasmussen (if you're willing to pay the price). They have my credit card and address on file, and it normally goes smoothly. Flying from Canada to Denmark to pick up is normally not an option...

Hi, Given your interest and expertise on the WWI Victory medals, it occurred to me that you might know whether there is a good illustrated comparison between the different types of ribbons used by the allied nations for their issued medals. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Regards, garven
-
Hello Garven,
No; there is no direct illustrated comparison that is currently in print (yet) that shows the differences in ribbon tones/hues. Some of the vics from specific countries (France, US, Great Britain & Commonwealth, Italy, Japan, and Czechoslovakia) have distinctive ribbons so they are easy to identify. There is a pair of panoramic images showing various vics side-by-side that I posted to the 'WW1 Victory Medals General Discussion' sub-thread thread of the main vic thread that does show the variations in ribbons. There is also a sub-thread in the vic thread called 'Victory Medal Ribbons in General' which should provide additional examples.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Rob

Kreuzer Prinz Eugen tallies don't come up too often. You really need to pay attention to the reverse construction. The alternating stitching pattern on the reverse is what helps determine if this is a good piece vs. a post war reproduction. Pay attention to that and keep a look out.

Would it be possible to send me the image of the cross (front and back) at higher resolution and tell me the measurements?
I would like to use it, with your permission, in my monograph on the Order of Military Merit, since it is a variant that I do not have included
Thank you

Hi Nick, it’s Tom from New Jersey in the USA. I’ve been looking for a cased Crown Prince Voyage to Japan medal for quite some time. I’m hoping since you seem to be the most knowledgeable person on this forum that you might be able to help me. If you have any leads to purchasing this medal I will be in your debt! I also want to thank you for all your help in the past with my many questions.
Sincerely,
Tom

Hi Glenn, I tried sending you a message, but it didn't work. Mayby your inbox is full?
Anyhow, here's my question:
I may use the image on the link for an article I'm writing about the Schaumburg-Lippe Cross for Loyal Service, but I'm baffled as to why a retired soldier would wear an WH eagle on an otherwise imperial uniform:
Do you have insight about this? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
All the best,
Antti
