Can you tell us some more about this interesting and expensive "badge"- jewel

    Benten

Benten, I apologize for taking so long to reply....been busy. This wonderful stickpin can from an American WWII vet who was part of a party instructed to pick up Prinz Philipp von Hessen at his residence. Philipp was not there---he had been put into a "camp" by Hitler toward the end of the war. In a dresser drawer was this stickpin....end of story. BUT I would speculate that this pin was given to Philipp by Herman Goering since Philipp was his brother-in-law and he tool Goering on a trip through Italy on Goering's second honeymoon. Philipp was German ambassador to Italy at the time. Only speculation however. Pin is made up of diamonds in a platinum setting with rubies for the swastika.....no maker marks....really no place to put them.

I received recently a very big Zeppelin-Collection from a collector who collected this stuff over 30 years.

Here?s one of the rare stickpins of the German-Zeppelin-Reederei.

tarnished gold, well detailled stickpin; came out of a grouping of a crew member of the LZ-129 "Hindenburg".

Beautiful pin Florian. Thank you. Is it marked in any way? Would one of the DZR flags been with the collection?

    Hi Mijke,

thers a 800 silver stamp on the reverse. Unfortunately no flag, but in this great collection there are some relics of the "Hindenburg disaster"- rare- very rare- ultra rare.

    regards

    Florian

I just want to say what a great thread this is. There are a few I have never seen other than in pictures or drawings. Here is a pin I just recently picked up. I hadn't seen it before and i thought a Swastika and Cross together on the same piece was rasther unique and a great conversation item. I am not especially fond of its lack of markings but with the Third Reich merely tolerating Christianity and not sponsoring it I decided to add it to my collection. If you have an example please do show it. I am curious if there are any marked examples out there. Thanks again to all who show their rare treasures. It's a real treat. Robert

Interesting piece Robert. I've only ever seen these in H?sken, which no doubt you have as well, I like it. There are some very nice items in this thread being dusted off, keep 'em coming lads!

    Cheers

Yes Don. With only Husken to go by I just had to rely on "honest wear" which it seems to have. No NSV brooch at market today. I did pick up a Munchen Olympic medallion for $1. Not our time period but much historical signifigance. Robert

This thread really makes me contemplate going down the stick pin route is Husken the best reference for this area ?

"Heering - H?sken, Katalog der Abzeichen deutscher Organisationen 1871-1945" covers virtually all enamel & organisational badges (not just stickpins but pinbacks as well) between the dates in it's title. There are approx 4700 black & white illustrations in it & is really the only current work devoted solely to this area. Cone's "One People, One Reich - Enameled Organizational Badges of Germany 1918-1945" only covers some 130 badges but does show reverses.

However, on the down side, we must remember that H?sken is actually their catalogue/price guide. As with any work, there are disputed items in it & others missing, & only obverse images are shown, no reverses.

Used side by side with Cone (which also has errors) you would have the perfect start to researching these fascinating items.

    Cheers

    Don

Thanks for showing Don and Joe. I have been looking for a nice KfdK for a while. The majority I see are in salty condition and pin back version. Very nice. Was KfdK not Alfred Rosenbergs' organization? Joe has a nice original DDAC. Those are heavily faked. And speaking of Rosenberg........have a nice day.

    Interesting pin Robert.

You are correct in your comment about Freddy Rosenberg's involement with the KfdK. There seems to be quite a number of pinbacks of these floating about at the moment. All of the ones that I've seen have the same fault on the leg of the Swastika & the same distinctive pin plate. The design of the "hammer" & surrounding shape is also cruder & less defined than the stickpin. Joe & I have been having a discussion elsewhere as to whether these are originals or not. We haven't yet come to a conclusion.......

    Joe,

Nice to see one of these DDAC's, they are hard to find.

    Cheers

    Hi,

this thread is really worth while.I am sorry to report back this late-whishing you a nice week-end Robert and Don. Though I use Freddy?s surname I am not really familiar with the KfdK,so hadn?t known his relation with that to be honest. I am an odd guy and so was he :P I actually had a good laugh after it took me like 2 minutes to understand who you talk about

The haken Kreuz looks raised on the KdfK stick-pin as well. Overall a higher quality of manufacture. I would assume there wern't many diferent makers of this particular badge and not all that many produced. The period needle design and craftmanship of the stick-pin would steer me in that direction. I do not own one of these but the stick-pin example is the one I search for. I will be attending a show in 3 weeks and I will keep my eyes peeled for both types. Will report back with any details. The haken is raised correct? Robert

It's not exactly raised, as the area around it is not filled in as it would be if enamelled. So the background is lower. A bit like the background on the painted party badges.

    Hi Gerd,

This is the membership badge for the DLV (Deutscher Luftsportverband), & looks to be the second pattern. I'm surprised to see it unmarked as these usually have at the very least Ges. Gesch & DLV on them if not a full maker mark as well.

    Cheers

Gerd That one is the Deutscher Luftsportverband or DLV. I have not seen this in stick-pin form. Only lapel pins and and occasional pinback. Thanks for showing it. I beleive this organization was to keep flying going since an Air Corps was banned per Versailles. A club. Hope this helps. I can post my lapel version tommorow as I'm off to work. Robert
