This medal (if thats what it is) was found recently, I know not of its origin,
It has the double headed eagle crest, with a gold and black ribbon, the medal itself is attached via a ring .

Hello,
I am not shure because it is not my regular field of interest but I think it is an officers long service award from imperial austria about 1900.
best regards

Correct - the officer's long service cross for 25 years service - Franz Josef.

If the reverse is plain metal showing only the eagle's attachment rivet, that is an as issued piece. These were very often found with a mother of pearl reverse on private purchase pieces-- to prevent tarnish rubbing on the light colored tunics. Often given as presentation pieces with engraved dedications on similar custom-backed pieces.
