    1. Sorry guys I am no relation to Farley Mowat. If anyone is interested I have the story of Farley's father Angus Mowat who is often sometimes confused with MY Herbert Angus Mowat. Growing up as a child it was always said that all the Mowat's were related to one another at some point way back when. I have traced my family back to 1734 in Scotland, and unless there is another brother of MY John Mowat somewhere, then thats it for me. I'll be sure to find out when I am in Europe in two years! I am planning on making a stop at the british and scottish archives to see what I can dig up. I am however related to Lt. Col John McRae who wrote "In Flander's Fields" My Great Gradfather's niece married John McRae's second cousin. Well I'm not directly related, but it's in the bloodline somewhere! Still an interesting story, and I thought it worth mentioning. Laurence - LOL You can have all the beer you like! Darrell - When the big bills come due, sometimes I kick myself for being a sentimental old fool. But then 1 second later, I am thankful that I am, and not a greedy old witch! So Ya Im babbling again, and it's late so I'll stop talking now Cheers Carrie
    2. That would be his father Maxwell Millidge Mowat Need I say more?
    3. WOW Darrell what's with all the beer? You think that's all us Canucks do it drink beer? LOL tsk tsk tsk Even though you are completely correct! HAHAHA You are more than welcome to look at these photo's all you like. I have been offered as much as $10,000 for this Military Cross, but I will not part with it! I would perhaps supply you with a reasonable hand drawn facsimilie. Thanks for all your comments and stuff Cheers Carrie PS i think its only fitting that I add a photo of the man who received all these honors. I forgot earlier
    4. Thanks again Rick....It was very hard to find Information about Canadians that fought in Russia. And believe me it was no easy feat getting those medals. I am currently in the process of getting the victory Medal and the British War Medal as well. Once I have those I will post them!
    5. Thank you for your warm welcome and your wishes of luck Rick!
    6. The last letter in my collection in regards to Oliver Alexander Mowat's Military Cross
    7. Oliver Alexander Mowat.... original documentation for his Military Cross
    8. Oliver Alexander Mowat's Death Plaque This was sent to the families of those killed in the War
    9. Oliver Alexander Mowat The Mother's Cross that goes with his Military Cross. Because Oliver was not married, this went to his mother rather than his widow.
    10. Alright, I know my collection is not half as big as some of yours. I see a lot of German memorabilia on here, and thought that Canada needed to be heard from. I know my stuff is not half as impressive as most of yours is...but they are special to me as they are part of my family history.
    11. Hi there I am new to this site, and was sent here by a friend. He told me that I might be able (with your help of course) dig up some more information on my Great Uncle. He was Canadian and joined the RFC during WW1. I am not going to type out the whole thing, you can read his story here. http://members.shaw.ca/Car_r6/Page3.htm I was hoping that maybe someone, somewhere, had access to any sort of papers, or otherwise with his name on it. I was sent an email today by someone who read my page, and has a photo of a plane on a roof of the hangar. He tells me his grandfather was in the same unit as my Gr Uncle Morden and took this photo. Is there anyway to confirm or deny that? Do they have records somewhere, like a war diary, as they do for the Army? The date on the photograph is July 1916, and Morden was shot down and killed on 16 may 1916. So you can see my dilemma, in trying to figure out if that was actually him that crashed the plane into the hangar. I never did get to meet my Gr Uncle Morden, but through my research I have come to love him. I am also in the process of getting the book "Under the Guns of the German Aces" as I have been told that he is mentioned there, and that there is a photo of him as well. Name: Morden (Morten) Maxwell Mowat DOB: 06 Dec 1891 Place of Birth: New Westminster British Columbia Canada Also if that is his medal card on my webpage...do the British have the same rules for receiving those medals as Canada does? I mean do you have to be a direct relative (brother, sister, mother, father,) as Niece or Great Niece is not good enough. Would it be possible for me to apply to get his medals, if they do in fact belong to him. Sorry I am rambing on here, but I just don't want to forget anything. Thanks in Advance Cheers Carrie
