Qualifying service for the medal is defined as service of any length.

Eligible personnel are defined as follows:

    3. The more I learn about this medal, the less I understand…

When first announced it was for a situation that hadn’t yet happened (not sure if this still is the case), and it wasn’t going to be back dated (so Covid for example was out).

Now the ribbon has been explained how do they know for instance that the NHS and or blue light services are going to be involved in this incident that hasn’t happened yet? Even the military involvement is potentially questionable?

If for example it’s awarded for the recent fires in Greece, that only a handful of fire fighters deployed to…..

      • Awards with His Majesty The King’s image in use from the beginning of October.
      • The new designs are presented on almost 50 different awards.
      • Images bear the inscription Charles the Third, by the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith.

The images - known as effigies - will be used for almost 50 awards, including The King’s Gallantry Medal, the Royal Red Cross and a range of long service awards.

The new images will replace previous designs which featured an image of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The new designs feature six different depictions of The King along with the inscription CHARLES III DEI GRATIA REX FID DEF - meaning Charles the Third, by the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith.

Three of the images show The King wearing the uniforms of the Admiral of the Fleet (Royal Navy), Field Marshal (Army) and Marshal of the Royal Air Force (RAF). On these medals, The King faces left in order for His medal bar to be seen.

New Royal effigies are announced when a Monarch ascends to the throne and are used on official medals and awards forming part of the UK’s honours system.

Her Late Majesty’s effigy has continued to be in use for medals and awards which recognised service given during Her reign.

    4. Latest situation with regards to Police LSGC’s as of Wednesday 27th September 2023.

“We are regularly contacting the Home Office for updates (phoning at least every 2 weeks) in relation to when the Royal Mint will be taking the orders for the long service medals with the King effigy following the passing of the Queen. The latest update from them this week is that the signing off the effigy by the King is close but has not been finalised. Once signed off the Home Office will then be submitting orders to the Royal Mint as all Police Forces will have been impacted by the delay it is difficult at this time to give an approximate time as to when we will in force receive the medals to pass on to qualifying serving and retired officers.

I appreciate that this will be frustrating for the officers as 12 months has passed but unfortunately, we can only be guided by the information supplied by the Home Office to ourselves and other police forces. There is also a delay in the force receiving the coronation medals.

As soon as any further information is received, we will share this with your office.”
