    1. Hi Jcoch, if you post here a good picture of sword and markings, I'll be happy to help you... Bye Dan
    2. Hi davids, I'm really interested to see your pdf files about the army proficiency badge... Can you post them somewhere again ? Thanx in advance. Dan
    3. On the left side. (start reading from the right column near the medal) 1) Award Bureau, President, Court Rank 3rd junior, Merit Order 4th Class, Yasumaro Shimojo. 2+3) Registration number 286.416 in the Incident 1931-1934 medal registry. 4) Award Bureau, Secretary, Court Rank 5th senior, Merit Order 4th Class, Hitoshi Ide.
    4. I've asked myself this many times ... Is there a precise explanation for the use of the pink bars? (I saw pink bars on many blue ribbons too ...) Thanx Dan
    5. "IMHO On" The first model is definitely the final version, with polished reverse and without enamels. The sandblasting is usually an intermediate treatment aimed at regularizing the background, which generally precedes enamels or polishing, so the second medal could be a transitional production datable between the middle and the end of 1945; already treated to be enameled but in the end remained "incomplete" and delivered as is. This could also explain the "sandblasting" of the Golden Kite, probably suspended before the completion of the final treatments of the last examples produced . "IMHO OFF" "ALL" was the theory, then you have to see the practice... Some inventory results may have been used throughout the transition period. Dan
    6. So is this all? No bright ray of your light will comes to dismount my (late, humble and worthless) "personal opinion" ? Ohh ! May it be because the truth is just a little bit difficult to dismount ? Did you notice that this is exactly the same thing that I said in post 2, 4 and 6 after yours? Think about it. best regards Dan
    7. I'm still waiting for your breath my prophet ... please, show me the way. Dan Expand
    8. I think you are the confused one. But really confused. You can ask what you want, but I am free to answer you when I want, if I want, if I have time and, above all, only if you ask for intelligent things and with the right tone .. June 2020 was a very difficult time here, and the arrogant claim of a snow picture just because you don't know it's winter, it was a stupid thing to pretend, in the wrong tone and at the worst time. I am a polite person, so it's only to avoid having to tell you these things that I did not answer you right away. Anyway, I am not your student, your parent or your friend and I don't care about your opinions, so, please, try to moderate the terms and avoid bothering me in the future to fix your limits, cause I have not time to wast with you. Is it clear ? Thaaaaanx. This is offensive and inappropriate. I would prefer "un bicchiere di sapienza in un mare di arroganza" ("A glass of knowledge in a sea of arrogance") This is how we call annoying clowns who think they know everything. Yes, sure, I know you think to know everything... But if it had been IMHO I wouldn't have wasted my time writing the previous post and I would have only written that it was IMHO. Maybe you don't ? Then... why don't you surprise me by showing to us the bright truth on this amazing subject ? Come on, please, show me the light... what would your truth be ? Thanx in advance and, please, don't forget the link to source... bye bye Dan
    9. Unfortunately I'm not so familiar with Mint's website as you are, but when I looked for this I was lucky enough to find a link that pointing there and there I found what I was looking for... Then : Verify reliability of the source : It is Ok (and with the mint site, this usually should be enough). Check compatibility with others data already in my archives : no contrary evidence. Look for tracks of existing 7° class green back medal before 1946 : not found (and never seen). Deep search everywere for people or topic with contrary certitudes/evidences/opinions : not found. Sharing and consultation with some friends to exclude misunderstandings in text translation : no mistakes. Looking for someone that already heard/knew the same info with a different source : at least 1 found. Conclusion : Info is correct. The end. This is my normal way, it never betrayed me and I don't understand why you find this little banality so important or weird ... Anyway, I'm sure I haven't found anything wrong so far, but it's also true that I'm not sure infallible ... So if you have something concrete that may have escaped me and says different things on this subject, please share it. I will listen to you with great interest. Thanx in advance and regards Dan
    10. Oops, sorry, I did not see... The source is an article on the chronological history of the Order found a few years ago on the website of Japanese mint. The green reverse of 7th Class was downgraded to silver near the end of 1945. This info was shared and confirmed by some friends in japan and any my subsequent studies (I always verify my information carefully) has always confirmed this data: Nobody seems to have ever seen "all silver" 7th Class medals before 1946. Dan
    11. Maybe I have been misunderstood. About a year ago I read a declassified American intelligence report, dated 1945. In this document all the paramilitary associations active at that time were mentioned, including this one. The description was : (I summarize because at this moment I can't find the original document): "Paramilitary association founded on January 1, 1896 by Major General Kawakami Soroku to give assistance and comfort to the soldiers who had fought the first Sino-Japanese war. (......). In 1935 (I don't remember where, but I think it was in the kansai ) a new group with identical purposes was born (no mention about who and why). This group has a similar name that sound different but it was curiously written in the same way (帝國軍人後援會) and for this reason, to avoid misunderstanding, it was commonly called "Yatagarasu Kouenkai". About a year later this group merges with the original one giving life to a larger and more widespread group that still exists today (in 1945). " Since then I have often looked for some source that could confirm or deny this reconstruction, but I have never been able to find one that is truly reliable. For this reason, if you have a link or some specific reference on this topic and you want to share it here, I would be really happy to know something more about this argument. Thanx in advance . Dan
    12. Order of Sacred Treasure was accessible also to women only from 1919. Order of Rising Sun and Paulownia Flowers has also been accessible to women since May 2003.
    13. If anyone still cares, this should simply mean "Temüjin" (Genghis Khan) in mongol.
    14. Wow ... then it's true ! So this is just an instruction "how to wear the badge" and it's was wrote under the pin ... My god... It's incredible. Thanx Dan
    15. Uhmmm... Are you sure about this ? I believe that in origin it had the same name but was not the same group. I seem to remember that this one was founded in 1935 and then merged with the other in 1936. Am I wrong ? Thanx Dan.
    16. Good morning everyone. I just seen an interesting inscription partially hidden under the pin on the reverse of only members' Badge suspension (it's not on merit badges). This inscription is "半襟一掛", that seems to say "to wear on the midlle of collar" (?) Is this correct ? Thank you for answers.
    17. It seems to be an original Nomohan medal with bad polishing...
    18. It's a post war badge. The six-pointed logo arrived in 1950.
    19. On 7th Class enamel was used until 1946. Suppress enamel was not an economy choice but just a simplification.
    20. To complete missing info about these medals : On the obverse : 萬 歳 = Banzai ("10.000 Years") Into the box are the same kanji you can see on the reverse of the medal plus the Imperial date on last column to the right : 皇 紀 二 六 五 〇 年 = (Imperial year 2650 from Empire's foundation by Jimmu Tenno) 2650 - 660 = 1990. This way to show date in 1990 was really strange.... NB : all writings are written from left to right in the western way. ************************************************************* The gold one has the same writings on reverse : 大禮記念章 - Enthronement Commemorative Medal.' ??? (unreadable), I think 金無垢 (Pure Gold ?) 平成二年十一月 - November 1990 On the obverse (Partial unreadable) 皇 ? 萬 歳 = It seems to be "10.000 years of ? to Emperor" ( or something so...) NB : Also this one has writings written in western way. Best regads Dan
    21. If you want to know something more.... Columns on the left side of the seal : "Showa 14, Month 4, Day 6" "The Director of Merit and Medal Departement, Junior 3rd Court Rank, 1st Class Merit Order, Yasumaro Shimojō" "Record nr. 195.226" "The Secretary of Merit and Medal Departement, Senior 5th Court Rank, 4th Class Merit Order, Utsunomiya Kouhei"
    22. Hello Paul, I've seen you wrote this in post #4, but I can't really understand wich are the two kanji to write "Level" and "Bravery"... Can you help me about this ? Thank You. Dan.
    23. Good morning gentlemen.... I'm working on my book about japanese Medals and Orders, but I'm encountering some difficulties to find good scans of some paper awards... So, I'm looking for owners or collector who can help me to find good images of their awards to publish on my book. I'm interested to paper awards for 1874 war medal, most of commemorative medals, Order of Chrisantemum, Pawlounia Flowers, Sacred Crown (does not matter which Class). Also some Manchukuo awards will be really welcome... As obvious, ALL contributors will be credited as owner (or simply contributors if papers will be found in public domain) in both italian and english versions of book. Thanx in advance for your help ! PS : If you can, please specify the real dimensions of awards in cm.
    24. "One person who looked at it stated that if it did not have the decoration on the hilt he would say it was an American 1851 pattern possibly imported from a neutral country during Civil War by either side" It's not so. All 1851 US pattern swords have 2 suspension mount , cause it is just a cavalry sword derived from 1840 model. Au contraire, the 1840 sometimes has 1 mount, cause it was adopted by some countries for various purpose (landing foces in Japan, but also infantry and guards in other states), and this justify the only one mount. I should be wrong, but IMHO this is an infantry/guards sword inspired from british version of 1840 saber, and the central symbol on the hilt should be a stilized peacock, national emblem of Burma during the british domain.
