  1. Hoping someone can help me with this. I'm looking for a Metropolitan Police Cape with chain/numbers if possible. This will be used for display to go with the tunic and helmet you see in the picture below. I was lent one of these old capes when I did a very cold night duty a few years back at Balmoral, it was so cold I felt like I was dancing. Anyway, the cape was more affective than any of the kit we had at keeping out the cold. so if anyone has one they would like to sell please let me know. Thank you Sorry about the picture. For some reason I can't right it.
  2. Hi Alan, if you done the 'share this post' way it would look like the above. Or you could just 'cut and paste' the stories and then add in the pictures.
  3. Very much looking forward to that one Alan. It would of been fascinating to have had a conversation with the man who 100 years ago did the same roll as I do now. Dave
  4. I'd have to agree with Mike on this. I'm no expert but the ribbon certainly surgests it's a Kings police medal which if I'm not mistaken came into being in 1909 so fits with the date. The Coronation medal doesn't have the broad lines as the Kings medal.
  5. I’m looking at possibly buying this. Can anyone tell me anything about the artwork or possible I d on it. County force Met? Any info would be most welcome thank you
  6. Thanks guys. I will leave this well alone then. I came across it in an antique store today.

A very nice S C duty band with the number 376 on the plate. £35

  8. Thank you gents for the information. It's very much appreciated. Due to this and the fact I only really collect Met items I'm going to put it up for sale if anyone's interested.
  9. I've just brought a Special Constable Duty Arm Band showing the number 376 on its plate. can I ask, does the number meen anything? Or are they just like shoulder numbers, a way of identifying an officer until the number is passed on? I'm hoping (being a Met officer myself) that it may in fact be a Metropolitan police band but again I'm not an expert and simply don't know. could someone let me know what dates these were issued please, WW1- 2? thank you for any info you can give me. It's always nice to have a little information and history on an item I have brought. Dave Here's the one I'm talking about
  10. Thank you chaps. Yes a cape would be nice. I will keep my eyes open.
  11. Finally the tunic I've been for waiting for has arrived. I already own the helmet that goes with it. They were worn by an officer from West Ham division. The original duty arm band is also present. A massive thank you must go to Dave Wilkinson who had a snake belt to finish it. Thank you Dave for your help. I found the date stamped at the back of the tunic which is great. There are two dates. One looks like 1947 and there is another stamped over it which is 1952. Does the double date mean it was re-issued? its now taken pride of place next to my own tunic and helmet.
  12. Hi Ian, I've sent you a message
  13. Does anyone have a copy of Mervyn Mitton's wonderful book 'The policemans lot' they may want to sell. if so, please let me know. thank you Dave
  14. Thanks Brian, I've just sent a message to him.
  15. I’ve been looking round with not much success. i would also love to find a good website/shop/dealer that sell mainly antique police items if anyone has any links they could post.
  16. I brought a nice Metropolitan Police helmet from around the 50/60s from a dealer and have now just paid for the matching dress tunic (with the high collar) which belonged to the same officer who served in the West Ham area. I was keen to pick up both items so as not to spilt them. i'm happy with the price I paid and I'm not looking to make a quick buck from them as they are going to be given pride of place next to my own tunic and helmet in my collection. It did get me thinking though. What is the rough price for one of these tunics now as I don't really have a clue. As I say, I'm happy with the price I paid but would be very interested to know your thoughts on prices if only for insurance reasons. Dave
  17. Cheers Mike, I wonder if he will sell me one (1) :-) I've seen one for £19 on Amazon as well which is not bad. its always nice to see if I can pick one up here from a collector as you know it would of been looked after. thanks again
  18. Does anyone have a black leather "snake" belt for sale or know a place I could pick one up from please? Thanks as always for any info. Dave
  19. Thanks Dave, I thought as much. Same as it is today then. Shame though, it would of been nice.
  20. Firstly, I must just say hello as this is my first post. I am a serving Metropolitan Police officer of 22 years. I have done my fair share of street work but have also done Diplomatic Protection (DPG) & Royalty Protection. back to this topic, I was hoping someone could help with some information on a police tunic I'm just about to aquire. I still need to sort some pictures and work out how to post them so forgive me for not posting any at this time. The tunic is apparently a Met high collar type and comes with a helmet with the King George helmet plate so must be dated between 1936-52? That being said, the tunic has four (4) Met buttons on the reverse, two (2) at waist level and two (2) at the bottom on the tail. Is this correct for a Met tunic of that date? lastly, the collar number is 689.K which I think was West Ham division. Could anyone give me some history of this officer as I would love to know a little more. Thank you for any information you can give me Dave
  21. Can anyone throw any light on the officer who wore this? 689.K is the collar number. K=West Ham division? It would be great to have a little history to go with it. Dave
  22. Thank you for taking the time to post your info. It's all very welcome and every day's a learning day so help like this is invaluable. The only other picture the dealer sent me was this one. There is a seven (7) in white on the tail by the looks of things. To the right of that there is what appears to be more white marks but this is completely unreadable. I will contact the seller tomorrow armed with your info and ask if they can kindly look for a date.
