    1. Bryan, thanks for that. Another piece of the jigsaw comes together. It ties in with a regt ident photo I put on the British Empire & Commonwealth Militaria page. Looking closely tha same gentleman is in both photos. in the other picture, he is seen posing behind a unexploded/damaged shell and he has a 'wound stripe' on his sleeve. Many thanks, Ivan.
    2. This was another photo amongst my friend's late Grand-Fathers collection. Are the Gentlemen here Military casualties? No information on reverse, but I take it it is WW1 period? thanks
    3. I've done a 1200dpi scan of the band and unfortunately all you can make out is 'Military Band'. Never mind.......
    4. Will obtain said piccie tomorrow and do a higher quality scan. Appropriate smiley by the way. My friend (whose photos they are) is the landlord of a 17th century pub!!
    5. I have been advised that this MAY be taken on board HMS Apollo on 7th June '44, before embarkation of Ike and Monty or after they transferred to HMS Undaunted after the Apollo ran aground. Therefore, could the two RN officers be Ramsay and Grindle? Still unsure of that analogy though, mainly because of the benches. Just had a closer look at the benches. Temporary fixture? They seem to be attached to the hand rail by carabina type fittings. Also, wooden deck. Was this normal for a modern vessel? She was built for speed, so maybe yes???
    6. Legs top left: Not Bell Bottomed... Non Naval? Bench behind RAF officer and GI chap. Non Naval fitting? Unstowed/uncoiled ropes under the GI's feet. You could be put on a charge for that?? Would this indicate a commandeered Merchant Vessel?
    7. If that IS a fired shell No.2 is sitting behind... could that be the source of his wound stripe?? Sorry if I sound a bit of a div.... this isn't my field of expertise! Regards ivan.
    8. Again, this was in a friends late grandfathers suitcase. Not sure if it was one he took, or a copy of a published picture. Was not sure where to post this question, as its not just UK military in this. Thanks Ivan
    9. On picture number 2, is that a shell in front of him? My friend has just told me, he has been told one of his relatives (grand-father?) was in the GSC '44-'45 and Royal Pioneer Corps '45-'48ish? Any connection to the 2nd picture, or is the dress too early? Thanks.
    10. Hello there again. As you were all so helpful last time I visited, I was wondering if you may be able to help me again. My close friend wants to identify the regiments of family members, that the family have no record of. I was hoping, therefore, if you may be able to do so. The photos of his family are below. Many, many thanks in adavance. Ivan Carpenter on behalf of M McGlynn.
    11. Many, many thanks to you all! I knew I could count on you!
    12. My dear cousin has donated me her late fathers old suitcase of his national service memorabilia, as she is terminally ill and knows I will treasure his belongings. He was in the Royal Signals and there 4 items I am unsure of and would like your help. The first two items are insignias of some sort and the next 2 items are what seems to be a container with a measuring "spoon". It is 3 3/4 inches long. The lid/spoon has a seal, (I suppose to keep its contents dry, or its contents leaking?) and also what seems to be a thimble but with no 'end' on it. Could it be something used for sending morse? Its been great looking through his old things. His Exercise books, letters from home, signal training pamphlets etc. My own father discarded all his national service stuff, whereas my uncle seems to have made off with half the barracks! Thanks in advance. Ivan
    13. Hola, I originally posted this on the "bunkers and fortifications" forum, without success. I spotted these on Google Earth looking for secluded coves as I am off to Menorca in August. Any Ideas as to what they are and the period? Pic 1 and 2 is near Cap De Favaritx. On a walking map I have of the island, the first two pics relate to an area on the map just noted as "old military camp". The two largest circular constructions seem to be too big (130' across) for coastal guns? On Pic 1, to the NW of the top structure and to the approx S of the bottom structure seem to be entry/exit trenches heading underneath the structures?? The others in the second picture could be implacements and seem to look out towards Italy (Elbe?) . Pic 3: near village of Trebaluger near Sant Luis. The antenna(?) in the 3rd pic is not even marked on the 3 maps i have.... odd. Much web searching has proved fruitless. GE community just states "large array" but no real facts/ID/use. Is it too late to be of the Franco era? Sorry for my ignorance on this subject, as my usual interest surrounds old airfields etc. Muchus Cracias Piccy 1 Piccy 2 1000' antenna?
    14. Thanks. The Ox & Bucks Light infantry chap is George Glover, my Mother in Laws Grandfather. She does not really remember him, but her mother used to regale her with stories of how he used to talk about being in Mesopotamia. Her Grandson recently returned from Basra with 26RGT RA. Spooky unknown family connection there. Again, many thanks. Ivan
    15. Sorry to be dumb here, but I really do not have a clue regarding Army history etc. The first pic then fits in with my original regiment/medals ID post, pointing to the 92nd Gordons. Those photos tho were of a different person who we think was Joseph Biddle. Did brothers serve with the same regiment back in the 1880/90's? Also, does the second pic give an indication to the approx period? Really sorry to be a bit of a thickie when it comes to this!! I do have my talents.... honest!
