How could anyone "sleep" in Ireland during 1916-21 with all that racket going on? I guess they would deserve a medal for snoozing during the Rising and War of Independence. The whole story sounds like a load of ould Blarney to me. I understand that Hopkins stock was sold off in the 1960s and it included a number of items such as Cuman na mBan badges both finished and unfinished (like the one in Whyte's 5 April sale) as well as blank silver and gold assayed discs of various years from the 1920s onward. These blanks were used to make various sporting, school and Feis medals over the years. I suspect this medal may have been made from one of those discs. The catalogue description mentions 4 examples - where are the other 3? Ho Hum....
