Hello, I haven't been actively collecting for a long time, and even when I was my interest was more in German medals and badges. A friend of mine asked me to research a dog tag he received from a WW2 vet he know that recently passed away, served in the Pacific theater as an infantryman. I know almost nothing about Japanese militaria, but doing some research online believe the "unit code" is 1128. Other than that I don't know, other than it doesn't appear to have a blood type stamp, which isn't unusual for IJA tags. The coins came with it as well, but believe I've found what they are, 2 Chinese "1 cash" coins from the late 1800s and a Japanese "1 mon" from the late 1600s. Any input appreciated, thank you! Steve

Any opinions guys? Apparently not a maker marked blade, and pattern on blade is also on the reverse side, with no other markings or etchings.

A little closer. No info on any maker marks or anything like that yet.

Hello Gentlemen, I've been out of collecting for a couple of years now, and even then was an EK guy, so this is a bit out of my league. This dagger is being offered to a friend of mine for sale, and the only info available at the moment is this picture of it. From the research I was doing so far seems like a 2nd model Luft dagger. I'm not really sure if authentic or not, as specifically cannot find another dagger like it with a similar blade engraving. Hope you guys can help, and would appreciate any info Thanks, Steve

Hey guys, This beauty came in today's mail, a cased 1914 "Fr" Friedlaender EK1. Marking is hard to get on a scan, and doubt I could get it on a picture, small incused relief "Fr" under the catch. Interesting crown design as well, with defined "upper arms." On the case, is one of the most interesting ones I have handled, but I have very limited experience with 1914 cases. The texture of the outside material seems different than my other cases. (Almost more plastic-like, but not exactly) Also, the pin is not a spring mechanism, but rather a push with a "leverage bar" from what I can conclude without tearing it apart. The top of the catch is also interesting, as instead of a 1 piece it has the regular shaped flat piece, with a soldered on piece on top of the catch to give it more width up top. (Will try and get some pics of this later, hope the description isn't too bad) Does this sound familiar to anyone? Passes the blacklight test OK. Thanks guys! Kind Regards, Steve

Hey Dan, Not an expert by any means, but the texture of your Memel medal that you posted just strikes me as "off." Very pitted, with rough detail, almost like it was cast, or something along those lines? The "design" itself doesn't necessarily make it a bad one, the overall quality though looks lacking to me, and I don't like it. Just my opinion man, Kind Regards, Steve

Hey Terry, Not an expert by any means, but I think when looking at the Detlev Memel fake you have illustrated it doesn't necessarily spell fake for the "straight-G" type of Memels. The COPY labeled Memel Detlev has shown has the straight-G, but what spells fake to me in the picture is the color of the medal, and especially the outer rim being uneven when comparing the obverse to reverse. (Obverse side is much thinner) While I would agree that the COPY one is a fake, I don't think it spells out fake for all the "straight-Gs," especially those whose other attributes (even rim, general quality, ect) point to it being an original, as well as there are "straight-G" examples that have provinence.
