    1. Just remembered another book by Ferguson"Beyond the Chindwin-an account of No 5 Col Burma 1943" He commanded this column. Found a copy on www.abebooks.co.uk Good luck, Mike
    2. Books which may help "The Trumpet in the Hall" covers exactly the period you want to research and "The Black Watch & the King's Enemies 1939-45".Both written By Bernard Ferguson a regular BW offr of the time. If I remember correctly he eventually led a Chindit column. If you only buy one book then buy "The Trumpet in the Hall" Both titles available at www.medalsonline.co.uk in the book section/regimental histories. The speed of their service is excellent. Mike
    3. I have for some years noted surviving medals to 8 H and my records show 14 Afghan no bar medals and 1 Afghan bars Charasia & Kabul (this combination is noted as scarce possibly only man entitled). Ref "Forfeited" against Pte Carter's name may indicate the medal was taken away from him for some offence against discipline ie absence, desertion etc.The Victorian army was renowned for harsh discipline.Would love to see if his record of service has survived. Best of luck with your research. Mike
    4. Any service person serving on Cyprus at the time of 1st Gulf War received the medal without bar;lots of RAF plus considerable numbers of army who were designated as battlefield casualty replacements,as there were few cas most of these soldiers never entered Kuwait but still received the medal withour dated bar. Mike
    5. As I understand it the soldier or Next of Kin (if deceased) had to apply for the "Mons clasp" and many didn't bother or maybe weren't aware. Also I have come across many applications which were marked on MIC "ineligble" as the soldier had to have been under fire. Mike
    6. Dear cabbell2207, I have bought from emedals, historikorders and Ursual and been happy with the goods however a problem all N.American dealers and indeed the majority of buyers of books I have sold to N.America is that they all think I have a cystal ball and never communicate with me that payment has been received or when goods are dispatched.I have learnt that I have to chase them.I guess life is hectic over there. Best wishes, Mike(4782mje)
