    1. Indeed and we must forget those other colonists who came to what is now the eastern seaboard of the United States like the Dutch (Remember New Amsterdam?) or the Germans, but native born Americans were, despite their heritage, still subjects of the crown and they did, whatever they may have thought of themselves, rebel against the King. The Americans who were loyal to the crown (which was quite a large number) fled to Canada where their decendants flourish today. I daresay, if the American Revolution never took place today, 'Canada' and the 'US' would be one of the largest countries in the world today! PS As a matter of interest, and its off topic, but to underscore my above point, Alex. Hamilton couldn't become President because he was not native born. If memory serves me correctly, he was born in either Jamaica or Barbados.
    2. To answer the question of this thread, the answer is a flat No. The British Regiments that fought from 1776-81 all refused to take their victories and emblonzon them on their colours because they considered the rebellion to be fighting against their own people and thought it a very distasteful war. Its forgotten in the United States today but the American colonists were Englishmen and revolted against their King. Indeed, if you look at the Regimental histories of the (29th) Worcestershire Regiment (The vein openers) or the (23rd) Royal Welch Fusiliers, one will note they refused 'Bunker's Hill', 'Boston' and so on.
    3. The latter three medals (from left to right) are defintely the Khedive's Star, (1882-86) Khedive's Sudan and Egypt Medal (1882-1884) He is probably from the Shaigiya tribe as they were the only pro-government tribe left in the Sudan after the Mahdi captured Khartoum in 1885. I can do a trace on which section of the tribe through my relations back home if the name is accurate. Nice photo!
