Pretty sure yes. I got it from my Dad who got it from a collector who told him the stroy of how he damaged the blade trying to polish it with some sort of tool and went too far. I don't know why the photo did not load. Mike

I managed to get a photo of the damage. It's a quarter inch down from the tip on the far side. This is all the damage no more no less. I put my finger over the flash for the shot. Mike

I got an offer for a dress bayonet I am selling but I will want to disclose the fact someone tried to polish the chromed blade and a tiny part of the chrome finish was damaged. I'd say it's less then a quarter inch wide and under a hald inch long near the tip. What % off would be fair for this damage? No way to post a photo it would never show up. Mike

The helmet shell looks fine to me. The liner pads seem to be the M16 type on an M17 band. Not only are the pads supposed to be white, even if they did substitute the leather the cut or design of the pads in the M17, from the M16 is a little different. It is possible that they used the M16 pads in some production of the M17 liner but then the rear pin is missing or not going all the way through. All the parts look good to me so at worst it's a parts helmet. If the right price it would be worth picking up.

I thought about this as a reason today in fact. As if so many people have no clue on the British contribution to WWII. Sad but true. Anyway my helmet is really flat in person. It looks darn funny on my head it's so flat. I will get another photo soon. Till then keep talking. Mike PS, I'd think a WWII helmet is a WWII helmet. Sad to see US helmets up to 500 dollars. I mean you can get a post war US M1 for 20 bucks un issued!

I have a 1942 Stamped Brit helmet. Had it since I was 13 but never considered looking for a date until just the other day. I always assumed it was post war. I looked on ebay to see they are practically worthless. Why are WWII American helmets priced in the hundreds and why have Brit lids lagged so far behind?

He should have coated it in lead and mailed it home LOL

Welllllllllllll!!!! I was wrong! I had it checked out by No man's land militaria. It's all good. It seems the East Germans simply used the same dies for making their hardware that Germany used in the first world war. I learn something new every day! Everything is good and the seller who feels the cover went way over common sense pricing wants to send me a % back. But I told him while I agree he does not have to. I left good feed back so he does not have to worry about bad feed back as the deal was fair and square. I also added that I won't refuse any partial refund either Mike

Note the WWI example is more rounded then the more square East German one. The Button on the cover itself is of a questionable period and it was backed for re enforcment with a piece of mordern looking by virtue of being so clean and none matching to the cover, material and looks just like the job I did on my repro cover for re eancting and probably for the same reason. I would guess a re enactor put this together from parts for use and later sold to the ebay seller when he got out of the hobby. Mike

Close up of the hooks, my original next to the Ebay example. You cannot see it by the photo but the way they got the east German hook on there was to widen the hole, fit it over with a gromet and and somehow press it down to hold. Or so it looks. The Added gromet type of ring was not seen on any originals I have seen.
