    The World's Most BIZARRE Award-- A New Chapter!

    Recommended Posts

    The von Koerbers were NOT Barons.

    Since he was still only a Leutnant dR in 2. Leib Husaren Rgt when the war started, too junior (and as a reserve officer "invisible") to guess whether he was attached to the Georgian Legion or ended up on the staff of the German Delegation to the Caucasus. I've never encountered his name in connection to Georgia.

    The star he was wearing (post WW2 from his age in photo????) is a hybrid of the Legion-type center with grotesquely oversized Red Eagle Order type rays.

    Typical of the fanatastical wearer "improvements" made to this former badge turned Order.

    For my understanding, are you saying he's a "fraud" for wearing it? Or that - given Tamara is a "free" order... anybody could produce it / issue it - it is actually a rare variation?

    Raises (at least for me) the question of how te logistics of it all worked... you'd go to a jeweller, had to show an award document, and only then would a Tamara be produced for you?

    Close up? Has someone asked for a CLOSE UP?

    Gentlemen, here you are. Thanks for your patience.

    PS:

    I know there is a lyakat medal missing, will be replaced as soon as bought. <img src="http://gmic.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blush:" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />

    You also might take a look at <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamar_of_Georgia" target="_blank">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamar_of_Georgia</a> if interessted.

    Hello Saschaw;

    Did you ever fill the Turkish award in this medal bar? Or is there still too much ambiguity to be sure which one goes in?

    Secondly, Is that a medal suspension clasp peeking between the Tamar ribbons? What "medal" would hang from it? Is there a Tamar hanging version?

    Can only be a Medjedije order or a Liyakat medal, and as the order's way to big, it can only be a Liyakat medal. My father did one add in the meantime, yes. Though no picture handy, sorry.

    There is a clasp, but I don't think there ever used to hang a star. I'm not aware of "ringed" or "ribboned" Tamaras, while Ottoman war medals are not unknown. This TWM, however, has a pin on the back.

    Congratulations! :cheers:

    It's arrived, will be making close up pics later today (unfortunately no scanner available where I am now). Nice also to look at the REVERSE where some things were a nice surprise to see:)

    I'm a complete novice (or even less!) when it comes to Imperial Russian awards or Imperial German, really just got this because of the Tamara in it.

    Would be very interested to know more about the other awards so will be browsing GMIC over the weekend on that, and also would be interested to hear whether - due to the combination of awards - there's a chance to narrow down who may have been the recipient of this set (i realize that's wishing for something with a very slim chance!). Anybody with a view on this?

    Bob;

    This is an exquisite, wonderful little set of awards! A great pick-up of minis. Remarkable detail for each and nice maker marks on the one-sided pieces.

    As for ID, I don't think the gnomes have enough to work on to narrow it down. But I hope they can. Otherwise it would be a shame to lose the name of the owner of this magnificent string.

    :Cat-Scratch::love::jumping: Those are MAGNIFICENT! The 25mm width is great and the poor guy with NOTHING but his tamara and Hindenburg makes me wonder: 18 years old in 1918 or one of the liberated prisoners of war there who were on-the-spot reinforcements?

    ANY Tamara ribbon bars are great finds--congratulations! :cheers:

    Thank you Rick! I really appreciate your kind comments. I think there were not so few men who served all the war and got nothing but Hindenburg cross. Approx. 11 milion Germans fought in WW1 (I'm not sure if this is a number only for fighters, not rear area servcies?) and approx 5 million EK2's awarded. Surely some got decorations from other states, and non-EK Prussian ones, like war effort cross, but there's still a considerable number of those who didn't anything.
