Thank you, one thousand thanks Nick to have bring this person out of the shadow where he was for several years.

I'm now going to be able to learn about this chap a little more.

Thank you again to have devoted time to help me in this search.

    Regards

Hello to any and all brothers in collection.

I need your precious help in translation about a Taisho document and box. I'm only able to understand Taisho 4 (1915) Nov. 7, and 7th class rising sun order.

But.. I don't know the most important , the soldier name.

Furthermore, I should like to know the meaning of the text on the top of the box under pawlonia blossom, between palms.

And, last question, according you is all that items matching to the same person.

    Thanks for your help

    Patout

In the case of this certificate it says "Junior 4th Rank, 3rd Class Order of Merit, 5th Level of Bravery, Hirata Yukihiro"

Hello Paul, I've seen you wrote this in post #4, but I can't really understand wich are the two kanji to write "Level" and "Bravery"... Can you help me about this ?

    Thank You.

    Dan.

This is because there is no such thing as "bravery level".

    勲三等功五級 ,

where    = merit =  sacred treasure or rising sun order

= meritous service/deed (in fact  is simply an alternative  form of ) = golden kite order.

    as for  等 = 級 = grade/class

The last post in this exceptionally helpful thread (to echo azyeoman) was about 15 months ago. Perhaps my addition will help to close the loop.

See Martin, Michael J. Japanese Military And Civilian Award Documents 1868 - 1945. Atglen Pennsylvania: Schiffer Publishing Ltd., 2016.

This book was suggested to me by No One and I have found it to be a very informative and educational work.

    All the best,
