    SOVIET RAILWAYS

I would like to begin creation of a thread where all interested parties can participate by showing off all their awards, uniform material, insignia, photography, and ANY etcetera-etcetera-etcetera, that has do with the Soviet State Railway System.

The topic is fascinating to me being a fan of Soviet Rail Station Architecture. Especially the beautiful stations in Odessa, Simferopol, and Sevastopol. Being the sentimental Ameri-turd as I am, I also recall spending greater portions of an hour, at the least, in a hot or cold Volga GAZ M21, waiting by the crossing at Inkermann, for whomever is doing what-ever to finish up and let us cross in either direction that we were heading at the time, and loving it all as those repainted blue & yellow cars with the old Soviet plaques removed and for sale on ebay removed passed me by in the windscreen. In sentimental memory of course... ... but at the time, it was quite inconvienient I have to admit.

So, the New Yorker in me that faithfully rode the IRT, BMT, & IND Lines, along with the LIRR in days long past prompts me to do SUBWAY first:

Here's my small contribution. I always loved the TR German railway hats with the red tops, but I didn't collect TR stuff enough to lay out the dough on one. I then discovered that the Russians had a similar red topped hat when the Webster book came out on Soviet uniforms. Then and there I resolved to buy one! Finally, a complete uniform (hat, jacket, trousers) came up for sale and I jumped on it. This uniform was purchased directly from the family by a collector and then passed whole as a group. More things might well be coming from the family - I'm keeping my fingers crossed. He was a Lieutenant Colonel of the railway service. This was his WW2 uniform; he eventually rose to become stationmaster of the Kiev Passenger Railway Station. Pardon the informal photo - I haven't yet finished setting up his display yet.

    "Soviet" and Andreas,

Great threads. The thought of looking for past posts on the subject did not even cross my mind.

"I need to get me one of 'dem" Railway Plaques...

Dave, your tunic and cap set are truly breathtaking. Really... Kindly be sure to post more of him when you complete his display.

I have an MTC set, but I'm not certain that it belongs in this Civil Railways thread.
