    Hello Stephan!

A very nice photo! I only have a problem with the unit...

Double-Litzen and the cypher with white pipings might be Gren.Rgt.101.

But that regiment hadn´t been in the Balkans... It only served at the western theatre

Yes, it's G.R.101 but that's not Balkan but Balkon M.G.

    Best regards

    Hello Stephane!,

Beside the cyphered shoulder strap, the soldier wears the typical Saxon field gray collar tabs with branch piping on his overcoat. This was done only by the Saxons.

It would be interesting to know if his cap Kokarden are missing or if the cap is reversed? I have alway thought that Kokarden made excellent targets and wondered why they later covered only one of them.

    Hello,

here another trench image, this near Höhe 304. It was a very contested point on the western side of the Maas on the battlefield of Verdun. Won by the German troops almost 101 years ago today (29th May 1916), it remained contested till the allied forces won it back on 22nd August 1917.

    Here are some of mine.

My major focus is handguns (mostly Luger and C96 pistols) in use, so trench pictures are not so easy to find.

The first one, show a bunch of guy (maybe two brothers among them) with their gas masks and their Mauser C96 pistols tucked inside their holsters stocks. The reverse is blank, unfortunatelly.

Here is a MG crew, some of them armed with Artillery Lugers (Lang Pistole 08). Nothing written in the back.

Last one. Another MG08 crew, now with some of them armed with Mauser C96s guns.

    Again, nothing written.

    Hi Chip

i couldn't agree more bout the targets...

I reckon this wise man has removed both.  I think I can make out the circles on the above close up....
