    Communist Romania R.P.R. - A.V.S.A.P. Badge

    Recommended Posts

    Hallo Gents,

Another pick-up at the Deva Collectors Fair held on the 23rd of June 2007.

Small colourful Insignia / Badge. RPR - AVSAP.

Item shows an anchor with crossed propeller and rifle.

Size: 27 mm X 20 mm, Vertical broach fasetening to rear, No Maker Mark.

I presume a Maratime Border Security unit responsible for controling the border along the Danube and the shores of the Black Sea.

Carol I, any input welcome, as usual.

A.V.S.A.P. cold be the acronym of Asociaţia Voluntară pentru Sprijinirea Apărării Patriei (Voluntary Association for Supporting the Defence of the Motherland), a paramilitary organisation modelled after the soviet DOSAAF. It was established in 1952 and disbanded in 1962.

    Kevin,

Although my knowledge of Romanian badges is virtually non-existant, I would say Carol 1 is probably right because of the insignia on the badge. Here is a photo of the DDR organization that was modelled after the DOSAAF. virtually the identical insignia.

    Regards,

    Gordon

I see this abbreviation on a sign .

Did you find the badge in Russia? The article mentioned above stated that AVSAP organised international competitions with participants from similar organisation in neighbouring countries, so in principle there could be several such badges around in the former socialist countries and vice-versa (foreign badges in Romania).

So far I have the Romanian, Polish, and the D.D.R. badges.

actually I have a Russian version as well,

although this does incorporate an aeroplane / glider in the design

    as does the Hungarian M H S Z badge

    Kevin,

Very interesting collecting area. Thanks for showing the three badges together. As far as I know there was no organization similar to these three in Hungary. IE state funded. I'll have to ask some of my Hungarian collegues. The closest thing I am aware of in Hungary would have been the MHS or the MHK although I believe they were strictly civilian organizations. The DDR had a full time uniformed staff for the GST. Did Poland and Romanian have something similar?

    Regards,

    Gordon

Another piece, (picture from a online sale from a couple of years ago) origin unknown to me.

Gordon info is very scarce on this organization here in Romania, as for Poland hopefully one of our

Polish members might be of some help.
