here's something i got a while back from an esteemed fellow forum member. not because of it's aesthetic value, mind you :D !

i obtained it because you simply don't see a lot of these in zinc.

Pardon my ignorance, but is this not a converted second class? I've never seen a first class with the reverse of a second class.

that's not an ignorant question--it's a logical question!

this double-sided variant is a known type--i remember back in the days (90s) when all of the leading german internet dealers had 4 or 5 examples of this award on offer at any given time--and you occaisionally would see the double sided version. but almost always in gilded bronze and flat. the zinc vaulted version is considered scarce. to make it even scarcer: the 'rim' or 'frame' portion of the cross is 'gekornt'!

nimmergut mentions both of these features (along with others) in his catalogs.
