Hi Nesredep......Pics aren't great but I'm assuming it's the same as this type in the link. The J in 'KRYMSKAJA' tend to give this one away but if possible post better head on scans.

    Hello Gent,Shield its Ok!!Original

    Hallo Kraut,

Please feel free to indicate in your opinion what makes this an original piece.

We are all here to learn, with regards our respective collecting tastes,

that is achieved mainly by sharing as much information as possible.

For Nesredep, your picture of the rear turned and highlighted

I remember reading in the book:-

A Collectors Guide To THIRD REICH MILITARIA by Mr. Robin Lumsden.

" . . . . Modern reproductions of the Narvick, Cholm, Krim, Demjansk and Kuban shields

are either stamped or cast in Brass, Steel, Lead Alloy, or a light Aluminum alloy.

Zinc is seldom used in their manufacture. All tend to lack the finer detailing

of the original pieces and cast examples in particular often

display small surface stipples or pock marks.

Many copies of the KRIM and KUBAN shields have the appearance of light gold

rather than dark bronze. Where prongs were used these were poorly soldered on. . . . "

Original KUBAN shields were stamped from sheet metal or zinc with a bronze wash.

In the picture provided by nesredep the object looks to be in BRASS

Possible...or it's an original that's been polished up. As I say, very difficult to tell with these pics.

Nes....with your permission, I'll start a thread on another forum and we'll see what the verdict is over there. Problem is, unless the shield is posted like this one below, it's a tough one to call. Gut reaction is, it's a copy.....
