coldstream Posted January 8, 2009 Share Posted January 8, 2009 This short handwritten diary was the property of H Wheeler of the Royal Marine Light Infantry and covers his service against the Turkish Forces from 1917 to 1919 in the Eastern Med. Whilst it does not cover any major sea battles I believe its interest is in the day to day onboard life of the Royal Navy and the harsh realities of the discipline. Simon F Posted January 10, 2009 Share Posted January 10, 2009 I am slowly reading through these very interesting pages and concentrating on some of the fine detail. It is very interesting that he mentions facts, the size of his messing arrangement, etc. I also like the comment about camouflaging the ship and the CO being very pleased. This is a very nice find and quite the gem of information. I shall have a scout about to see if I can dig up some details of the medal you have shown, if you have not discovered it all ready?
