Guest Rick Research
What do his shoulder boards look like? And what is the pinback award he is wearing-- Sports badge? Wound Badge? Or?For some reason, with that bayonet arther than a Hirschf?nger, I am thinking Gendarmerie from one of the smaller German states? Is there a photographer's name and address to tell where this was taken?
Vetinari
Here are some more scans. One the backside is a stamp "Atelier Stern, Berlin NW, Turmstra?e 38". Thank you.

Guest Rick Research
Ahhhh. You were correct-- Forestry service. What I thought was the top of a bayonet is the clam-shell guard of a Hirschf?nger, and his shoulder boards are definitely the same color as his tunic-- GREEN.I have never seen collar patchs as fancy as that before on a Forst tunic. He looks rather like a Mecklenburg General with those!Too bad no name-- if he worked for the city of Berlin, he would be in the online address directory. Gordon Craig
Vetinari, Rick,Very interesting uniform and I have certainly never seen a Forrestry uniform like this one. Really unusual collar insignia. I wouldn't say that the Hirschfanger definitely makes this a forestry uniform though. He could be from a hunting organization as well. If you look closely at the photo he is holding a Hut in his left hand. Too flattened to make out the shape or any adornment on it but it could be for either association. I have a good sized German Forestry collection plus I know some very knowledgable Forestry collectors in Germany. If it is ok with Vetinari I will forward his photo on to my contacts and see what they have to say about it.Regards,Gordon
Guest Rick Research
Nor have I. It's an oddly military style uniform, which is why my first thought was some sort of Police ("Green" or "Blue") copying the Reichsheer uniforms of the 1920s.
