What about the picture inside the Stein?

Ludwig II died in 1886: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludwig_II_of_Bavaria

Otto didn´t rule because of illness: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otto_of_Bavaria

    Luitpold? : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luitpold,_Prince_Regent_of_Bavaria

What, if the Stein is a fake? A have seen faked Steins with faked names before...

A lot of fakes had the picture of Ludwig II:

    http://www.reservistenkrugsammler.de/Kopien_Faelschungen.php

"Gerne wird auch das Portrait vom Bayernkönig Ludwig II. als Bodenbild bei Kopien verwendet. "

(The portrait of the Bavarian King Ludwig II is also often used as a base picture for copies.)

I wonder that at the bottom is only a thin red line instead the blue/white colours.

Compare your Stein with the Stein in chapter 2.) Die Form des Krug Henkels

    It looks similar...

Unfortunately there are a few facts against an original one.

    1) Ludwig II (if he is it)

    2) no blue/white stripes

    3) no match with the name

    4) there are no photos from the inside of the lid. The inside must be brighter than the outside

    5) no list of comrades from the company. No list = no check... I have three Steins. Each has a list

    ( compare here):

    Hi,

I do not have it in my hands yet, but these older Mugs are not that much of an issue, the fakes are usually the sexier ones... 1900 muga and earlier are too "blah blah... " ... I should have it next week...

I really hope you are right! Another thing that makes me wonder is the price.

An original one from Leibregiment for under 200€... a little bit cheap, isn´t it?

But I don´t want to make it bad. Let´s wait til it arrives!

What would you say to the king? I´m really not sure, who he is

Krugs have really come down in price over the last 20 years.... I have 11 Leiber Krugs, this one I think is maybe EUR140 tops... some similar ones I have have picked up for EUR120 ... Krugs 1890s up until maybe 1905 are really not the Renner... Most Krug collectors seem to focus on the ones from about 1905 - 1914 as they really improved in optics and quality... But even there you can get really bombastic ones for EUR350-400...

I really do not have a problem with this one... it does not have the modern machine made design, it is a boring older one, Generic lid... Krugs are pretty well faked, but may be the easiest collecting field to tell the good from the bad. I hope it is here on Monday!! :-)

I wish you luck! But you´re right. It´s better to watch it "in hands" than "on photos".

I have three Steins from my regiment (Feldart.Rgt.43). Two from ebay for between 250 and 300 each and one together with a Reservistenbild from the same person!

It arrived yesterday, it is kosher, but boring... has the hand painted details and all the good signs. By coincidence I found another of my older ones has the same Bodenbild but completely different Malerei. I guess they used old stocks of Blanko porcelain...

Hi, will get a pic done tonight.

You had me so worried I was about to smash the Krug in frustration for buying a fake, but in the end I sent the pics to the gentleman who runs the Page you linked to above with the fake article.

    http://www.reservistenkrugsammler.de/Kopien_Faelschungen.php

    He confirms it is original.

    "

    "

From what i understand, the krugs with the names of comrades etc are usually 20th century, when a system evolved and the Krugs got better. In the 1890s it was not that advanced and soldiers had them made after their service, with usually much more simple and old fashioned "Boring" Krugs.

Phew... I was looking at my krugs and thinking "If THAT one is bad... then so is this one! and this one1"

    ;-)

    Hello Chris!

Glad you didn´t smash it! Congrats to the Krug! I´m happy with you that it´s an original one!

I just wonder about the picture of Ludwig..., but if the man said, it´s ok, it´ll be ok! He is a specialist

I was tossing up smashing, or using it as my everyday beer mug :-)

That's possible. Or maybe it's a Stein from before 86 painted in 97?

Very possible indeed, I just noticed i have another from the same era, also with L II... but painted in a very different color scheme... maybe someone had made way to many before LII died and there were still enough for years to come...
