    The British 8th Army Corps, WWII.

    8 Corps District was part of Southern Command & covered the counties of Devon, Cornwall & Somerset.

    From 1940 - 42 a formation sign consisting of a black "Francolin" partridge n flight, on a white horizontal oval was worn.

    HQ 8 Corps moved location in February 1943 to Scotch Corner near Darlington, in Northern Command, & a new badge of a chargng white knight in armour on a scarlet square was adopted - the Corps was now an Armoured Corps, with 9th & 42nd Armoured Divisions under its command.

    The partridge badge continued in use with the newly formed South Western District.

    As part of The 21st Army Group, 8 Corps landed in Normandy in June 1944, & with The Guards Armoured Division, The 7th Armoured Division & The 11th Armoured Division under its command, it fought through from the beachead to the Elbe, forming 8 Corps Administrative District in Schleswig-Holstein on the defeat of Germany.
