Nice coffee grinder . as the French used to call the MG 08 . the pic must be of the very beggining of the war . the men belonged to the 106 Infantry regiment ,a Saxon unit. note the cuffs and the monogram over the shoulderboards , the crowned G of KIng Georg .

Thanks again . very interesting!  I observe that the ammo in use is the round pointed munition for the Gew 88 .

Until I discovered the MG 99 and MG 01 I tended to believe that the German Army used Gatling or Nordenfeldt MGs
