    Hi,

Here is my first South Korea ribbon bar in my humble collection.

I must admit, I do not know anything about this country awards. Any help to ID the ribbons on it and info about the owner would be great.2014.gif

I looked every where I could not find a ribbon chart for South Korea, I wonder if Antonia Prieto Barrio made one yet he made many other medal bar charts??

I am not 100% sure. I know this medal ribbon very well but because that bar looks like very new and modern, I think maybe the owner is too young to have Korea Medalrolleyes.gif .

Lets see what turns out when someone can ID rest of the ribbons.

    Thanks George!cheers.gif

    Best Regards,

    Hello gents,

I am not sure but think about it:

United Nations Korea means 9 blue stripes. Thats a fact.

But on the ribbon bar i count 8 blue stripes.

    Thanks

    Elvis

What does that mean, that there is an error in the ribbon bar??

These are not necessarily the proper names for the medals, but a description of them by a friend who was a colonel in the ROK Army.

2nd Row, 3rd ribbon – Red Cross Medal 1956 (Missing Red Cross attachment)

    3rd Row, 1st Medal – Worst Year Medal 1981

3rd Row, 2nd Medal – ROK Army 20th Anniversary perhaps (the stripes are much narrower on mine. See Att.)

That's a very nice and very rare medal ribbon bar. information -accurate- about South Korean medals is difficult to obtain. There's a guy who is writing a book about South Korean awards now and I think he said he's about 60%-70% completed. The South Koreans have changed their awards system several times, or overhauled it after the military withdrew from power.

I think I can be of some help.

This ribbon group belongs to a Police Officer.

    1st row (L to R)

    Minister of Home Affairs Commendation

    Police Commissioner General's Commendation

    10 Year Long Service Medal

    2nd row (L to R)

    20 Year Long Service Medal

    United Nations Medal

Red Cross Medal (Missing Red Cross Attachment)

    3rd row (L to R)

    1980 Overcoming National Crisis Medal

1984 Pope John Paul II visit to Korea

1985 IBRD IMF Annual Conference in Seoul

    4th row (L to R)

    1986 Asian Games Service Medal

    1988 Olympic Service Medal

    1988 Paralympic Service Medal

I hope I have been of some assistance.

Great information! Thanks. Korean ribbon bars seem to be available...in Korea. It's still an untapped research area, with a ton of military history on both sides available. There are even detailed North Korean unit histories around, but finding a reliable source is difficult.

It is hard to get a contact in the archives there and once you do there is a high turn around in researchers there. No one likes to stay in one place long :D always shooting for better positions :)
