    Hi there!

I am new in here. I have got this medals/orders from my grandmother 30 years ago, and she got it from an great-uncle who was working as a diplomate(?) in Persia in the 1880ies, I think, but I am not sure. It is a set with a breast star, 87 mm in diameter, and a shoulder sash with a smaller star, 74 mm in diameter. It is made by Kretly in Paris. It comes in a black leather box from Kretly that is a little worn. The shoulder band is also a little worn, as I have let my children play with it... But the stars are in pretty good shape, and luckily there are no damages to the enamel as far as I can see.  I really don`t know much about it, but this seems to be the right place to ask.
Could anybody tell me a little more about it? How old is it? Is it silver? Should I polish it? Is it worth anything?

    Hello Norseman,

The Persia Lion and sun medal set you posted is from the approximate time frame you mentioned, late 1800's, probably 1880-1890 time frame. Kretly is a well know French maker of military and order medals. The order became obsolete in 1925 with the fall of the Qajar Dynasty. The breast star is a 1st class star and civil issue with reclining Lion. The set is made of silver. If you are interested in selling the medal set or would like an estimated value, you can send me a private message or email me at: markustruckee@gmail.com.

    a very nice set.

Interesting  variation, the badge has only six points while the star has seven. Most curious does anyone have any explanation.

    Hi Paul,

I count eight points and three circlets, on the breast star, typical of a 1st class breast  star. The sash badge is also very typical, being a 3rd class badge, the highest badge offered with that type of suspension and always seen on sash pairings, with the 1st class badge.
