My treasured medal - 1911 Royal Parks Coronation Medal

    Recommended Posts

    Hello again folks,

I thought it was only fair that I posted some photos of my most treasured medal in my collection, I'm a bit of a techno fool so I hope this works!

The medal is engraved to J. Burrows and I have just set a task for an ex colleague of mine working in the Royal Parks to find out some information about the person who was awarded this medal.

I would love to locate more of these medals, but this is the only one I've ever seen.

Although I have been a member here for some time, I've never really posted as I didn't believe I had any knowledge to impart.

However I've been reading this forum with interest and I must say, you are all some very clued up individuals and the knowledge base here is great!

I hope that over the next few months I will be able to share some of my varied collection of mainly British Police items.

    Regards

    Anna.

    Hello Anna

I've just been through my limited notes I have on this medal and can tell you the following medals have all been noted by collectors over the last 20 years or so:

Royal Parks London - Sergeants, Gate Keepers and Park Keepers

    J Ainsworth | H Barnwell | A Bolton | J Burrows | A Cumner | G Earwaker | A Jenkins | J Kirby | J T Linksey

    C Miller | G Orchard | C Phillips | M H Stroud | E P Symons | M Travers | C Waterman | J Wright | G Yeomans

Royal Parks London – Supernumerary Park Keepers

    R Bond | W Cameron | A Miller | P Pinder

    Holyrood Parks – Park Keepers

    J Burnside | T Duncan | J Gunn | J King

Burrows medal was on the list of a dealer called March in mid 1996.

So there are a few of them about out there (not that I have one though)

    Hello Odin,

Thank you for the information, I only wish I could get my grubby mitts on some others.

I've had a brief e-mail from a friend of mine regarding Burrows medal and he will be calling me tomorrow with some of the information.

However what he has said is that Burrows wife was convicted of theft in 1909 and was given 9 months with hard labour!!!

I'm looking forward to finding out as much as I can about Burrows.

Sounds interesting - so hopefully he can come up with some more information on Burrows and his wife

Hopefully so, I guess I am quite fortunate to have friends still working in the Parks with access to information.

The particular officer giving me this information will have just under 40 years Police service by the time he retires in 2012.....Royal Parks Keeper, Metropolitan Police Special, Royal Parks Constabulary, Metropolitan Police Royal Parks OCU officer.

Still waiting for updates into this officers history, I haven't forgotten!

An ex-RPC officer currently serving in the MPS has been researching the RPC past for as long as I've been in service, so I am really looking forward to more info.

Is there any way to flesh out the details of a name on the Royal Parks medals? It would be great to have a roll that provides the full first name and the position of the recipient. Perhaps one way might be to see if there is a roster of Royal Parks personnel for the time period of 1911-1912. Any thoughts, suggestions, or advice?

Sorry I haven't been on for a while, work has been getting in the way!

Charles, I'm going to see if I can get any further information on the Royal Parks personnel files....but it will probably take some time.

Still looking to add to my Royal Parks collection of One! ;)
