Is this a British naval uniform c 1946

    Recommended Posts

Third time lucky getting this on.

Hoping someone can suggest which naval uniform this is. Taken about 1946 presumably at the home of the chap in Invercargill New Zealand. Someone has suggested it is British rather than New Zealand. Family just don't know although have vague recollections of their much older brother being in a uniform.

    Suggestions welcomed

    Thanks

    Hi Trev,

To my opinion, this is a square rig of a Commonwealth Navy lower rating. Interesting are the extremely long tapes hanging out of the jumper (non regulation) which were intended to keep the silk in place.

Thus, all Commonwealth Navies basicly wore the same uniform, differences can be found in the prefix on the tally (HMS, HMCS, etc.), and the use of an embroidered title with the name of the colony or dominion (Australia, Nigeria, etc.).
