Am I correct in thinking that Steel ones are 1915 model? I have seen Hessen steel ones with a green and with a silver-grey finish... is there a difference? Would you show us the maker's stamps on the leather tabs? According to some expert German buckle collectors, the two-piece buckles (with the applied roundels) in gray are the very earliest ones and just steel extensions of the M95. A French buckle collector I met at a show said he had never had one with a leathe tab. From memory the green one had a different tab. There is an obvious downside, smetimes it is not possible to see right off the bat which comments relate to which buckle, but I had to take tha into account as some of the single buckle threads were lost waaaaaay back in the back pages.
