    Socialist Yugoslavia Fakes!

    Recommended Posts

In order to avoid opening new topic every time I spot some fake I will post them all here.
Here's the latest one from ebay - Order of Merits for the People 1st class.

I agree but I can't really determine what was exactly done with it. Front side is probably just painted like in the most of the cases.

When it comes to the back side I don't remember seeing first classes with IKOM narrow screw nuts (that is one more proof that it's a doctored lower class).

All of the screw types are numbered but the numbers are different on both IKOM and ZIN (ZNB) pieces - So 0323 was added later but if this was originally screw type what happened with the original number? When it comes to Merits for the People three figure numbers don't have zero in front of them! Roman numeral must have been added later as well.

The best that I can think of is that someone took two lower class orders, one unnumbered needle type and one screw type and did the following:

-Needle and the fighter were removed from the unnumbered type and number and Roman numeral were put on the back.

    -Front side was painted.

-After that fighter with a screw was removed from the 2nd order and put on the 1st instead of the original one.

And that's how you got first class IKOM narrow screw nut type with a strange number.

To me it looks easier to remove needle than the original number, also if you take a look at the fighter on the front side you can see that it's slightly rotated to the right and that the color underneath it is not golden, could be because of glue or something like that.

Order of National Liberation 3rd type miniature.

By the way, is it me or is the number of full-size orders on the market disproportional to the number of awarded pieces (only 262). I've seen over a dozen in the last year, year and a half, and that's only on ebay. Four of them are available as we speak. I can't see anything obviously wrong with them but still... Someone found a stash or what?

Second one is from ebay auction, seller took a photo of fake (on the right) next to original miniature.

I suppose also 3rd type, ring on the 2nd type is much thinner. Anyway ribbon is definitely not appropriate, those were used on first type miniatures.
