The Burgher Unie of the Zuid Afrikaansche Republiek.Apparently there were 300 members who all received a 9ct gold medallion with membership number stamped on the back, and only 12 female members?Genl Jan Smuts was also a member and his membership number was No 218. Mervyn, one of the senior moderators is resident in SA and ran a militaria shop there for years and Chris Boonzaier is also very expert on the South African wars and, I believe, reads Afrikkans, in which I suspect much of the information about this group is written.
