Is an leopold II article 4 medal hard to come by??

I thought they should be awarded then for campaign's in Africa as Belgium itself wasn't in war.......???

It is not easy to find the LII versions, certenly the one between 1873 and 1900 when there was only one class.

The Art 4 is not only given for war actions but olso for currage and work in extreemly difficult situations

When you have a palm on it it was given for bravery in war time

See here the model made by FONSON when Prins Boudouin bekame Royal Prins in august 1950.

He folowed the tradition of the Royal Monogram, but this model has never been officiel.

On the 8 jully 1952 the decoration was reorgenised and a lion came on the backside of the medal.

So-with the chevron;15 years (+) service?

This ribbon bar represents a hard working NCO who served from @ 1980/5-2000 or thereabouts?

Thought I would bring this thread back from the dead as it really helps out newbies like me, plus the referenced site is great!

Here's my first one; a nice 2nd class and if I did my homework correctly, a nice Albert I (1910-1934), Double A, Type 5 example.

Well, they aren't all that cheap. :( But, I guess you get what you pay for. Here's another one that I really like!

The case shows "2nd Class", so not sure if the Article 4 had the same cases as the long service awards, but the case is fitted for this type medal.
