    Unusual Picklehaube covers....

    Recommended Posts

    Chris,

Some units just pulled off the numbers when the orders came out to remove them, others just covered them up, perhaps thinking that the war would be short and they could just take the patch off. Anyway, it was not all that uncommon to see. Colonel J's site has had some photo examples posted for quite a while.

    Hi,

may not be super rare, but I must admit, I have seen thousands of pics over the years, I have seen very few with the covered up numbers. It would be interesting to see if it is possible to narrow it down to a few regiments? I guess it would not have been on the guys own initiative but rather orders for the unit?

I have some with the front back side seams, found in Germany 20yrs ago. Personally I think they are pre war upon mobilisation. I've given a couple away to other collectors. They were filthy and had shrunk I washed one in borax with hot water, I think they are 'sewing groups' item quickies. Whatever call me crazy but I like the material and stitching for me they are W1 not found in reference books.
