Walter Hellwig?

Hi Gents,

I know that this is a Wehrmachtsmajot but he´s wearing a nice ribbon bar

with medals from the Kaiserreich.

On the rear side there is the year 1937 and a name Walter Hellwig, does someone

know this guy or has informations about him?!

On the ribbon bar I belief to recognize EK2 14, Schwarzburg? X, Weißer Falke X, Herzog Carl Eduard - Medaille X,

Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer and two Wehrmachtsdienstauszeichnungen.

 In the 1935 Stellenbesetzung, there is a Major Hellwig, commander of II./IR 75 (Donaueschingen) (Major 01.08.1933).

 

He is listed as coming from the Landespolizei.  The Dienstaltersliste d. Polizei Offiziere für 1928 lists a Hptm. Walter Hellwig (*11.9.1890), stationed in Erfurt.

 

His Dienstalter as a Polizei Hptm. is 17.06.1911.  This corresponds exactly with the date of rank of a Leutn. Hellwig in IR 71 in 1914.  IR 71 was garrisoned in Erfurt!.

 

In the 1937 Stellenbeseztung he is listed an an Oberstlt. (01.03.1936) and commander of III./IR 75.  In 1939 we find him as Kom. d. Wehrbez. Heilbronn.  According to a small booklet "Wehr Ersatz Inspektion Suttgart 1934-1945" published in August 1952, we find him listed as an Oberst a.D. living in Heilbronn.  His date of birth is 11.09.1890, place of birth Geestemünde. 

 

I am quite confident that this is the man in your photograph.

Yes, it is from his HPA file.  The quality is not great, since the files are on microfilm and these are digital photos I took on the microfilm reader.
