Pre-WW1 Grand Maneuvers - Foreign Representatives

Recommended Posts

I'll slowly post information and photos I dig up online starting from 1913 backwards. We already covered some years in the separate topics and Trooper_D was kind enough to share scans of some of the postcards from his collection. Since I plan to make this a general topic on Grand Maneuvers I'll post all that here as well.
Information about the representatives is from various sources, mainly newspapers found on Gallica, Le Gaulois, Le Petit Parisien, Le Figaro etc. while most of the photos are from delcampe, I'll post links to original sources, hope no one will mind.

Thank you for another wonderfully well researched series of posts, Paja.

The narrative which accompanies the group photo in  your first post refers to the automobile accident which involved von Winterfeld.  Here is what the US military attache,  T. Bentley Mott (the subject of this thread here), had to say about it,

"Major von Winterfeldt had a bad motor accident at the manœuvres of 1910, nearly losing his life. The French authorities sent one of their best surgeons to operate on him, they surrounded him with every care and attention, they gave him the Legion of Honour and after long months he got well." Mott, Col. Thomas Bentley. Twenty Years as Military Attaché (Kindle Locations 1827-1829). Arcole Publishing. Kindle Edition.

Incidentally, the marksrussianmilitaryhistory web page, which you posted a link to in your first post, erroneously states that von Winterfeld lost his life in this accident, perhaps as a result of a mistranslation from the French.

Don't mention it. I've stumbled upon series of articles in the newspapers covering von Winterfeldt's accident and recovery. They published daily reports, some including his body temperature and heart rate, and if I remember well even the president of France visited him. I think the accident occurred on September 16th.
Do you happen to have post cards or images of the foreign representatives from 1911 and 1910? I've been trying to find them online but so far nothing. The idea was to find the photos first and them look up for names.
