Unknown OberstLeutnant on Urkunde IR 42

    Recommended Posts

    Hi,

could be the later Generalmajor Weiz. Before the war Oberstlt. with the IR 117 from 20th Mai 1914 Commander of 31 Reserve Inf. Brigade. Ended war as GM. Maybe he switched from the 31st RIBr to 42nd IR. According to the Kriegsgliederung der deutschen Truppen im Cernabogen Mitte November 1916 he was with the 42nd IR at that time.

    Thank you Prussian!

So, since the document is dated 8. August 1916 and signed as a Regiment Kommandeur, we could assume that he was formally already a Regiment Kommandeur, before the officially dates 16.11.4-16.12.16 you wrote in your post?

    Ooops, I´m sorry. I wrote 16.11.4. I meant 16.11.14

GreyC was wrong. The Ranklist of honour says, he served again since May 20, 1914 as chief of staff of Inf.Rgt.117. But no entry in Ranklist 1914.

His last job in the war was commander of 31.Res.Brig. (since May 1, 1918)

    Sec.Lt.: 13.9.84

    Pr.Lt.: ?

    Hauptmann: 25.11.98

    Major: 27.1.08

    Oberstleutnant: 22.4.14

    Oberst: 21.1.17

    Ranklist 1886: Sec.Lt. in Inf.Rgt.111 (a regiment from Baden)

    Ranklist 1890: Sec.Lt. in Inf.Rgt.111 (commanded to Kadetten-Haus Bensberg)

    Ranklist 1895: Pr.Lt. in Inf.Rgt. 111 (commanded to Kriegsakademie)

    Ranklists 1899-1906: Hauptmann in Inf.Rgt. 111

First entries of medals in ranklist 1906: RAO4, BZ3bmE

    I don´t have the ranklist 1907

    Ranklist 1908: Major in Inf.Rgt. 60

Ranklist 1909: Major in Inf.Rgt. 60. Added medal: Dienstauszeichnungskreuz

No entry in Ranklist 1911 (I don´t have the 1910)

    chaps,

he left Prussian service on 3 November 1911 to enter Turkish military service, hence the gap in the army list between 1911-1914. His entry in the Offizier-Stammliste of IR 42 shows that he assumed command of IR 42 on 29 October 1914 although it does not differentiat between temporary and permanent command details. His further wartime appointments are shown as:

1.7.17: Leader of the reserve officer candidate course at Warthelager

    1.3.18: Commander of IR 402

and finally commander of 31. Reserve-Infanterie-Brigade from 1 May 1918.

    8.9.20: Charakter as Generalmajor.

    Regards

    Glenn
