    Schlesischer Adler / Silesian Eagles

    Recommended Posts

    Hi Tom,

An interesting grouping and an interesting career - from kanonier to LW Engineer!

Any chance of a close-up of the reverse of the enamel Schlesien Adler 1 Kl? It looks like it might be one of the4 Max Reich examples but with ?repaired hardware?

Interesting to see WERNER Sedlatzek, rather than the more usual Fredrich!! Maybe Werner was the earlier owner of the firm, or Friedrich broke away to form his own firm?

    Regards

    Mike

:Cat-Scratch: THAT'S what was niggling at me, Mike! A previously unknown relative of the post-war Extremely Naughty Person!!!!!!!

LOTS of them at the trade. Here's the 1941 Berlin City directory for Sedlatzeks, showing Previously Unknown  Werner as a "Juwelier" at that address:

Any details on the engineer's life story? Must have acquired academic credentials that got hiom a direct posting in that specialist branch at an impressive rank level.

    Hello Mike,

    Good eye!

The enameled Silesian Eagle First Class is indeed an example by Max Reich of Breslau. I will post a few more pictures for you.

    Best regards,

    Tom

    Hello Rick,

The only information I have is that he was a Kanonier in 1919. His Hindenburg Cross document (awarded on 15 March 1935) lists his occupation as an engineer, so he must have gone back to school after his Freikorps service. On 23 March 1942, he was promoted from technischen Angestellten to the rank of Flieger-Hauptingenieur. Then on 26 February 1944, he was promoted from Flieger-Hauptingenieur to the rank of Flieger-Stabsingenieur. Also with the documents is a photo copy of a postwar retirement document, dated 25 May 1964 and showing his title as Oberregierungsrat. I figured you could fill in all the rest of the details, including his shoe size.

    Best regards,

    Tom

    Interesting... interesting...

"Oberregierungsrat" indicates that he was a civil service "lieutenant colonel" level--as a college graduate. That he was so under the West German government suggests continuous service at SOME sort of "gubamint job." But AVIATION related? :speechless1:

What Ministry did he retire from?

(I can only do career military officers. Bureaucrats are a void no current Research Gnome can fill....)

What Ministry did he retire from?

I don't have the answer to that, Rick. The retirement document is rather generic and makes no mention of any particular Ministry. It appears that there is a large seal or stamp at the lower left, but unfortunately this document is only a photocopy and nothing of the seal is legible. I would think, though, that it is the seal of the Bundespr?sident and not a Ministerial Seal.

    Best regards,

    Tom

So... he went from the era of 2 winged aircraft made out of wood and cloth to jets in his professional career!

Wouldn't it be nice to know what his technical specialty was?

    Hi,

down right is the signature of the defence minister, Kai-Uwe von Hassel

This is always the seal, also for the signature of the ministers (with changed colours for a better view):

    Regards

    Uwe

    Hello Uwe,

Thank you for the information about the retirement document and the identification of von Hassel's countersignature.

    Best regards,

    Tom

Great grouping. The signature on the retirement doc is of course Heinrich Luebke, the president who one famously said to a crowd in Africa, "Meine Damen und Herren, und andere Neger" (Ladies and Gentlemen, and other Negroes", and who can forget his audience with the Queen, when he blurted out "Equal goes it loose!!", when in fact he was trying to say, "Gleich geht es los".

I'm sorry for this offtopic posting but L?bke said "Meine Damen und Herren, liebe Neger" (Ladies and Gentleman, dear Negroes).

Does anyone have further informations dependin on the Max Reich Eagle? As I said the M.R. marked eagles I know look different in many details.

    Hi,

I can see why there have been a few views but no comments on this one. For me the hardware is unusual and the application of the silvered devices leaves a bit to be desired. At least they ARE separately attached! I can't condemn it as bad - it may certainly be period - but personally it's not one I'd add to my own collection.

    Regards

    Mike
