LIST OF CONNAUGHT RANGERS FROM CASTLBAR, Co. MAYO KILLED IN WW1

    Recommended Posts

    Hallo Gentlemen.

While doing research for my book I discovered the following names of Connaught Rangers soldiers who died in the Great War, all the men came from Castlebar town or very nearby, I was wondering is it possible to find out more precisely where they were killed, as the term France & Flanders even covers the Italian theater.

While the number of Connaught Rangers from Castlebar killed was small (17), I am sure there were many more Mayo men who died serving in other regiments.

I will post the names of the other Mayo men from other Mayo towns & areas who died in the Great War while serving with the Connaught Rangers in the coming weeks.

Also with regards the list it gives the battalions the men were serving with, I was under the impession that the 1st & 2nd Battalions were the main fighting units the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th were Militia recruiting Battalions. Can somebody help me understand the way they worked.

It would be interesting also to know if any members hold any medals to the Connaught Rangers, specifically any to the Mayo contingent

    Kevin,

Do you have the whole roll of honour or just the men from that county? I have a friend in England whose grandfather (last name of Cody) was an officer in the Connaught Rangers in WW1 and was killed. The name is interesting. Family history has it that "Buffalo" Bill Cody traveled to England, became enamored with a lady and fathered a child by her.
