    1. Hello: I knew I had seen these (or ones similar) before, but could not at first, remember. I went to my, old set of 3 Books, by John Angola, On the WW II German Navy. I looked in: "Die Kriegsmarine", the first Volume.....Page140 and Lo and Behold I see "Kriegsoffizieranwarter", wartime Officer Candidate Shoulder straps that have 2 Gold tress loops at the bottom of the shoulder strap, going across the bottom of the the Senior NCOs strap. This is Indicating a Senior NCO, that is an Officer Candidate and has gone to school and written and passsed the qualifying test and has not yet received his promotion to Officer. He is also entitled to wear these shoulder straps and wear his dagger with a knot ( portapee). These straps, with additional tress, Could be in the Blue Uniform or in the Green Uniform for Navy Artillery I hope that this is helpful? Sabelwerke Michael
    2. Even a fake 3rd Reich badge should have more detail ??........Horribly missing , any finesse. Surely an attempt. Michael
    3. Hello Paul; Remember, at one time the S.A. had over 3,000,000 Members and they were used for many things. A lot for: crowd control, attendance supervision and direction of attendees to large rallies and additional body-guard service; where Party members had rallies. at some Offices of the NSDAP & S.A. and various other duties. The were used over and above the police forces in some areas, Early On. The Police rationalized that the various Police forces "Were NOT Military service", but could be used to augment the Military". Many S.A. men went to the Police (They Joined, first the police and then the S.A. Marine). (Remember Reinhardt Heydric was and Officer in the S.A.Marine Before going to the S.S. and finally the S.D). Early in the regime, the Military, Armies of service were forbidden to have more-than 100,000 Men-under-arms (Total) , No Air Force of any kind, No Submarines and no Shore/River Military Control or Military police force (that would come later4) The navy had, almost no ships and only about 20,000 Marine service Officers-and-men to cover ALL the ships, ports, rivers and naval service and training areas that they had.... All pulled very thin. However they still had many able-bodied, former navy men with no jobs and a lot of time on their hands (perhaps most of them were in the Party and S.A. Members.) Ergo take the former Naval Members and form (First a unit) a cadre of them to Help train the troops and service areas where no troops were available. and fill the need, temporarily (or Longer) add to the navy, as experienced Navy-Men over-and-above the (actual) Navy the country actually had. You might Remember: they were NOT Officially in the navy and were not usually "in he Public Eye". Hidden; like the D.L.V. air sport and glider club, with many Party Members: The Luftwaffe-to-be. and the most National Socialist of all the services. A similar thing happened under the auspices of the S.A., a branch, the N.S.K.K., in a much smaller way. The NSKK Marine Kusten Polizei;, or Motor boat Police. Furthermore there were also the youth and Teen-Agers for the party to take care of in the Hitler Jugend.....part of it became: Marine Hitler Jugend. Former Kaiserlich Marine, N.C.O.s and Officers was used to Pre-Train young Men that wanted to go into the Navy; This formation was similar to the Sea Scouts, here in our country. However, these youth had ideological, Physical, as well as escalated Military training. This was done from a very young Age. It made it easier, when the Navy Service was pulled very thin and then Hitler became Canceler and repudiated the Versialles treaty, Openly. Then these, additional young Men, were eventually assimilated into the Kriegsmarine and they were almost completely trained. I am looking at the Die Org. Book of the NSDAP, that I have (1936,1937 and 1938 etc.) and I find some writings/Rules, drawings there, about these formations and their Uniforms and some of their equipment. More on this subject will be available at a later date. I hope that this is helpful. Michael, sabelerke1
    4. Marine Pfarrer or Gestichler (Chaplin). A Naval Official (Marine Baemter) Shiremutze, of the (2nd type Peaked Cap), 1942 or after.) 1st type had the cross between and reaching ABOVE THE OAKLEAF WREATH) I believe a Dekan or Marine Admiral would have a Gold Chin cord and the rest of the insignia in silver bullion or silver-colored synthetic material. This cap was acquired many years ago and is one of my favorites. thanks, Michael

    6. Hi:  For all of you "Learned Gentlemen" at GMIC,, I really need your Help.

I have not posted, nor have I contributed much,  nor asked many questions, since I have been a member, in the past-few years.  I have just read, posts, articles, questions and looked at the "Lovely" photos  (Most of them made me drool-with-envy) and wished that  the items were mine.  However if you will forgive me, I need your assistance in identifying a "reefer style jacket", that I have obtained from Germany, a few years ago, You see I am a Sword/Sabre Collector (Mostly Navy) and also Uniforms and Hats to go with the swords.   I have no idea, for sure, what this jacket is.

The Jacket is approximately  a U.S. size 40 or 42.  It appears to be a "Navy style" reefer jacket or Rock of some Military or quasi-military formation.  It came-to-me with a Tailor's Label attached to the front closer flap from Albert Hilbert KG., Rastatt.  At the bottom of the tag it is "stamped": 20 Mai 1939 and elswhere on the tag there seems to be, handwritten, 1937.  The tag is named to a Mr. Fuchs, and it identifyed a "Rock" and is marked: BA 76 and Korp. Gr. 186. along with many size and other numeric notations.  I will enclose a enlarged scan of the tag.

The jacket is a dark Blue and is rendered in fine wool cloth (Moleskin or Badge cloth), it is double breasted and has NO Insignia anywhere on it, save 2 golden tress (litzen) at the bottom of each sleeve,  like the normal Navy designation for an Ober Leutenant.  However; these stripes are tailor-applied and are not "Sewn-through" the sleeve lining, like they were added-later.  The "Litzen" are also of a smaller width  stripes than normal navy litzen,  l(Like the width used for NSDAP, Polizei and S.A. Marine) officers or the like, shown in some wartime periodicals.   The dark blue color of the jacket is slightly lighter and off-shade, when compared to some of the other Kriegsmarine reefer jackets, that I have.  I have Moleskin, gaberdine and Twill types and this one is lighter in color.  Under close-scrutany I find NO thread remnants or any color or shade difference, anywere on the jacket, that might show where collar patches, shoulder titles, armbands or the like, might have been removed.  It is a mystery-to-me.

When the jacket was recieved, there is another anomaly in that the jacket came with a place for 8 buttons on the double brested front.  There were "Knots" where it appeared that the Buttons "had been sewn on and then removed"? When I inspected all of the pockets I found 4, size 10, Naval Anchor Buttons in the left hand flap, hip pocket.  The back of each button was marked: RZM  M5 / 72     RZM.    I think that the fact it has RZM numbered buttons says, it is probably for someone  in a Navy unit that is NSDAP associated?   I have since obtained 4 more buttons, of the same type, from Helmut Weitze in Germany.

The inside of the jacket is of the fine quality, that you would expect of a special, Tailor Made garmet and follow closely the lining and finishing found in a Tailor made Navy, Officer ,jackets.   The full interior is lined with silk-like Navy blue material and the inner lining is off-white sateen with black stripes running

down the inside of the arms.  There is, also,  an illegible stamp on the off-white striped lining.   Sabelwerke1@att.net

    7. good day Prior to the full institution off the Kriegsmariine and the repudiation of the Treaty of Versailles......The German Nation had ONLY, 10,000 - or - So Navy members allowed to Run-the-navy, Police-the-coast and Police the Rivers Man-the-existing ship and "Do all of the other NAVY duties and things" under the Versailles Treaty. The S.A. had over 3 Million Men in the organization and what better way to utilize those SA Member from the Reichsmarine and the Old Kaiserlich Marine and the Handelsmarine thanto form theminto a SA Unit ( Also an NSKK Marine and Motorboat unit. There is very-Little-written on this, as of yet. Photos to come later Michael sabelklinge sabelwerke1@att.net
