    7. As a ribbon bar collector I'd agree it's probably an Indian general service medal ribbon, so you a pic of the back?
    8. Hi Stu Welcome to the forum and here's a long thread from this very forum all about them! Enjoy! https://gmic.co.uk/topic/26515-the-legion-of-frontiersmen/
    9. Could be just the 1911 coronation medal too as they both have the same ribbon and medal is similar too
    10. On that groups ribbon bar there is a ww1 victory medal, how is he entitled to that if he was fighting on the side of the Germans and won a EK2nd class?
    11. VERY nice ribbon bars, there both very unusual, I wonder if every ribbon had a glass single ribbon of it's own, iv only seen the 3 posted here and the other one I have that il hopefully find over the weekend
    12. I'd love to know myself what it means, it would be great if it was a surname, il have a look over the weekend to see if I can find that other glass single ribbon bar
    13. Sorry should have added the back!! doesn't look like it was made by the same company
    14. Yeah you see these glass ones from time to time, iv one with the territorial ribbon (it's somewhere in the house), heres one that looks like a QSA but I think it's US, though did get it from the uk
    15. Well if the thing you bought was attached to this button then £65 might be ok but if it was in its own yeah that's not a bargain at all!
    16. Thanks for that, was he a captain in the end as nothing on the London gazette I can see says he was a captain (though the LG is a fickle site)
    17. So I recently picked up locally this named British army uniform and I was wondering if anyone could help me with IDing the owner, it seems to say Captain G R WATSON but as the uniform is completely stripped(with new shiny buttons added) I don't know the regiment he was from, iv tried the London gazette and no luck, I did find a capt G R WATSON on the 1945 army list but I can't access it on forces records without a subscription and while its on fold3 it doesn't seem to to be searchable, could anyone help to see if I could get an ID on this officer? Now the other thing that is a bit puzzled since I got it I noticed that on the bottom 2 pockets there doesn't seem to have been any buttons at all!is this normal? again help help on this would be great
    18. hi there Yes there are buttons for different regiments on uniforms and then different buttons for the corps ie RAMC RE etc and if you Google British army buttons you will see all the different buttons the regiments have as there are ALOT of different ones
    19. You would normally for a standard uniform ID the unit through its buttons or the name tag inside (this would sometimes have a unit to) if there was no collar tabs
    20. When I zoom in on the captain's buttons they look like elephants on them, could it be the Duke of Wellington regiment (west riding regiment)
    21. If you look in the 2nd link I provided it has all the information you require and all information on the awarding of lsgc medals in the British army
    22. Hi there Here's a link to the 1st version of the long service medal from 1830 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Army_Long_Service_and_Good_Conduct_Medal And the newer version from 1930 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medal_for_Long_Service_and_Good_Conduct_(Military)
    23. The stars from left to right there the 1939 to 45 star the Burma star then the ww2 war medal the last medal is a ww1 victory medal, is that last medal named? The ribbon bar is the wrong way round and the only missing medal is the defence medal which is that green and ribbon on the ribbon bar
    24. Here's a quote from"yes prime minister" Bernard Woolley: In the service, CMG stands for Call Me God. And KCMG for Kindly Call Me God. Hacker: What does GCMG stand for? Bernard: God Calls Me God
