Any guesses?

Hi, this is to soeone in the 2nd Ligne regiment, he was born in Pays bas (Does that make him Dutch?). Are these the medals for a front fighter or would he have something different? Is the document official in some way?

Here are mine. Only ting of note is the styles of bars. There is the overseas assistance missions bar and the foreign legion one. What I never understood was... the REP also got the Troupe Aeroporte bar, the 3rd infantry regt got the Infantry bar on their medal, but the 2nd infantry regiment never got the infantry bar due to some strange technicality.

Seems to be the standad way of moiunting medals to be worn by women. Best Chris

To answer this... he was buried at Champigny-St.-Andr? , so in Normandy. Question is... does anyone know if the panzer lehr was there? There were 2-3 Pionier Lehr units, the only one in normandy would have been the on in the panzer lehr

Exactly ! With a digital camera and Irfanview you can take on the world ! you can determine the size, crop of the parts you dont need etc. etc.

that is what confuses me, usually you always see French vets with fulsized medlas. Every year on the 14th July at out regt they used to award medals to vets, for guys who had served WW2etc. all of these guys, when wearing medals, had the regular ones. best cHRIS

A good friend had just about bought it, then the seller backed out and sold it to a dealer (breaking up an over 25 year friendship). I never got to see it, but from the guy I should have got it i am sure it was 100% kosher... he really knows his stuff. mAYBE IT WAS an anamoly and both were issued in error?

And in its box. bad flashwork makes the writing unreadable on the outer box

From what I see the ring was removed to sew it directly to the ribbon. it seems there was a pin of some sort, but no longer there....

How comman is it to have both. I know of a group recently sold to a panzer soldier who was killed in an accident in spain. In the group were docs and crosses, including a Bronze cross with swords AND a relatives cross. I did not know BOTH were awarded for one soldier ??

What makes it a very rare combination, other than the fact that the first and 3rd medal are for fighting the British, is that the first medal is the DTD, it is the boer distinguished service medal for officers. almost all Boer war units were irregular, and when the commandos reformed for the campaign in German South West Africa, most Boers who volunteered on the govt. side served once again as officers. i.e. A farmer who had served in the Boer war as an officer in the Kroonstadt commando, rejoined the same commando as an officer in 1914 (usually). Commandos being the name for irregular units a the time. Jordaan however had served as an officer in the Boer war, then joined the newly created regular army as an NCO after the boer war, his service as an irregular Lt. not qualifying him for officer rank. So... while a number of DTD winners also had a DSO, or MC, only 2 or 3 had a DTD-DCM combination (for those who do not collect Brit stuff, a DCM is an enlisted mans decoration) because it meant serving as an officer, then as an enlisted man.

Hi, From a book written by his CO after the Boer war. Jordaan was one of the small group of men that went into the Cape province to raid and raise the cape Boers to rebellion. I will do a longer write up about it when I finally get some time. Best Chris
