    1. Hi, I am trying to land BOTH... and make a pig of myself ;-)
    2. Way cheaper, but nowhere near as nice... http://www.emedals.ca/catalog.asp?item=F212
    3. I like this one as a no BS really old one... but 95 british pounds...
    4. I have seen one for sale with the medal for crazy money.... But it is not the version I have seen online.... Is their anyone who can give a quick lesson on this and tell me how much I should expect to pay? As it was very much a legion battle I would like very much to get one...
    5. Hi Jim, There are a number of good books, mostto be found on Ebay I think. A good easy read but very intresting none the less is "Battles of the Boer War" by W. Baring Pemberton a totally, super classic account from maybe the most famous young Boer is "Commando" by Deneys Reitz, it is his autobiography and was7is very widely acclaimed. best Chris
    6. Hi Ed. Thanks for the info, indeed you are right, sewn to a backing with hooks, french style. The war star has one ribbon with a silver star, and one with 2 bronze stars. best Chris
    7. The yellow and green ribbons are apparently "war stars" Can anyone help me "read" this ribbon bar and give me an idea of who would have gotten this kind of combination? Thanks Chris
    8. A friend found these and asked me to try and value them for him.. maybe the members can help me out, I have no idea as it is not really my field.
    9. Yup... he is Hopefully we can encourage him to stay
    10. Ahhh, he is the guy who sells medal ribbon at the shows... I guess medal bars are in his blood
    11. I think where they belong is in the eye of the individual collector. Of course, India is independant, but for a collector there may be other ways of seeing it. For a specialist like Ed they are a totally independant collecting field, but to a collector of mainly Brit medals who has a couple of post 47 groups they may just be an "Epilog to the Empire" thing, dispalyed with pre 47 medals. In the same way, I am well aware that South Africa is independant, but I would probably end up showing South African medals here, ditto for Rhodesion medals after Ian Smith broke away from Britain. They may not be brit, but the traditions go back...
    12. What exactly is it? I would guess an assocuition medel for artillery guys wo served in WW1?
    13. No photos or details of him in the history. He is also no longer listed in the officers for January 1917. best Chris
    14. I guess it depends on what one finds to be visually pleasing. Of course, as you say, to the guy who gets it the symbolism is most important. I am sure I once saw a CIB style badge with a tank on it? Was that unofficial? So you have a Infantry badge, now a general combat badge with a crossed bayonet and grenade... sounds somehow familiar... do you think the guy who designed it collects German awards
    15. Nice stuff Paul !!! I have seen most of it in the other forums, but seeing it all gathered gives a great overview and gives a good measure of the displayrs intrest in the hobby. Best Chris
    16. Hi, the seller was not shtting you, this did belong to a RK winner. his name was Ernst Petzold and he won the RK as a bomber pilot. Towards the end of the war his unit was retrained as Fighter pilots for the Reichsdefence. Tom Young here on the forum has some photos of him. I had thought you had dissapeared off the face of the earth so I passed them on to him. i will point him here and he can post them. I had the jacket, a few photos and a backpack. The group was split up at some stage and a guy I know is still trying to reunite the documents. best Chris
    17. Unfortunately not. I have his "silberC" large award doc though. best Chris
    18. Are the hooks on from day one or added by a jeweller for the winner? Best Chris
    19. For the record (unfortunately not the photographic one) I used to have a full sized 1870 EK2 with 25 oakleaf, it was a cross that was 100% made during the WW1 era as it corresponded more to the WW1 crosses than the 1870 ones. It was mounted in the same styles as Ralphs mini in post 10, and had the same style of button, obviously for wear on a civilian set of clothes.
    20. I will go against the flow and say, back in my days of TR collecting I always found the Brehmer pieces to be far nicer than the CEJ....
