    1. Nehm transfers to destroyer Bruno Heinemann on September 27, 1941 and survives her sinking on January 25, 1942.
    2. I recently acquired this little gem of a photo album. It was compiled by Walter Nehm in 1993 (with original period photos) and chronicles his entire career from his days in the HJ through his service in the Kriegsmarine. Nehm served on the Hilfskreuzer Thor's first war cruise, then transferred to destroyers, serving on Bruno Heinemann and Z31. Following are some highlights from the album. First up is Nehm's HJ page.
    3. Hi Joe, Yes, Nehm was on board Bruno Heinemann on 27 Sept. 1941 and survived the sinking of the destroyer on January 25, 1942. His ausweis, which is in the grouping I acquired, was in his uniform jacket. Nehm was then assigned to Z31 (the grouping has the commissioning photo). I will start a new thread showing much of the grouping in the documents forum soon. Here is the BRUNO HEINEMANN album page from Nehm's album. Best Regards, Erik
    4. Hi Joe, How's this page for starters... Nehm's photo album, which was compiled in 1993, has a wealth of information about his career. He notes that he was on board the destroyer Bruno Heinemann on September 27, 1941. I would assume that this marked the end of his service on HKs. I will post more of the album in a separate post as time allows. Best Regards, Erik
    5. Today I acquired a grouping of Walter Nehm, a sailor who began his career on an Auxiliary Cruiser (Thor) and then transferred to destroyers (a survivor of Z8 Bruno Heinemann and then served on Z31). Herr Nehm completed his service as an Obersteurmann. The grouping has many clearly identified photos of Walter throughout his career. Following are three different images of Walter wearing his HK and destroyer badges while a Gefreiter (on his pea coat), as an Unteroffizier in feldgrau, and finally a formal portrait in navy blue. I will post more of this grouping later. It includes Nehm's soldbuch, KM Ausweis, Arbeitsbuch, and a handwritten letter to Nehm from Thor Kommandant Otto Kähler. The grouping is in an album compiled by Nehm and traces his life from HJ to the RAD and finally to the KM. Thought Martin might be interested...
    6. Diesel room showing the U-48 (or other boats such as U-564 who used the black cat emblem) traditions badge in wear.
    7. Peter - do you have any evidence that U-247 used a red badge? I'd really be interested. Thanks, Erik
    8. Also Peter, I have never seen a real 1st U-Flottille style pin in red. The accepted originals are blue. I have seen a lot of fakes in red. Here's mine for comparison. Erik
    9. Peter, This one looks bad to me. Enamel does not appear period, pin not right. Best Regards, Erik
    10. Martin, Very interesting and nice photo. Thanks for posting both the portrait as well as the Mausi Unit link. All The Best, Erik
