    1. Thanks, Justin. Those two framed badges came that way. I'm assuming that they were done by the vet or family, but as you know, one never knows the real story behind handmade artifacts unless obtained directly from the family. Erik
    2. Another recent acquisition. A framed portrait with a U-164 traditions badge.
    3. Sto: 1) I have great forum friends! 2) Luck ;-) Thanks for your and Morten's compliments. Best Regards, Erik
    4. A recent acquisition, U-48 traditions badge. No vet provenance, but the picture and badge appear to have been in the frame for quite some time. Love the photo in the frame. Teddy Suhren, Heinrich Bleichrodt, and Erich Zürn, apparently before Suhren and Zürn were awarded their own RKs. I love Suhren's recounting of how he received his initial RK, as told in "Ace of Aces": Bleichrodt stands ready to receive his RK from Dönitz at Kerneval in Lorient. Bleichrodt tells Dönitz that he will only accept his RK on one condition. Dönitz is taken aback, and asks what the condition is. "I'll accept mine as long as my IWO, Suhren, gets his RK as torpedo officer, otherwise, no". After Dönitz consults with Endrass and Endrass says "yes", then Dönitz agrees that Suhren should also receive his own RK.
    5. Gordon, The new book looks great!! Looking forward to being able to work my way through it. All The Best, Erik
    6. Nice looking obverse, with a good amount of finish. The rectangular clip base on the reverse certainly is interesting. Nice find! Erik
    7. Tim, Thanks for the compliment on my badges! I picked up some WWII KM traditions badges (which I'll post in the KM section), some pretty great WWII U-Boat photos, as well as the Imperial UC 67 doc set that I posted in this forum. Definitely woth the trip to Louisville! All The Best, Erik
    8. Tim, Great discussion - thanks for initiating! Here is my marked Schot badge with a single die flaw.
    9. Finally, two images mounted on cardboard that must have hung in Herr Remper's home. I especially like the view of Istanbul.
    10. World War I U-Boat documentation grouping to one man, consisting of five documents and two images mounted on cardboard. The documents are to Maschinist Maat Otto Remper of UC 67. UC 67 was responsible for sinking 52 ships during World War I. UC 67’s last commander was the pastor Martin Niemöller. Documents include: - U-Boat Kriegsabzeichen (U-Boat Badge Award) April 1, 1919 - Iron Cross II Class (Eiserne Kreuz) September 18, 1917 - Iron Cross II Class and Bravery Medal in Silver 2nd Class April 2, 1919 - Iron Cross I Class November 28, 1919 - Iron Cross I Class April 14, 1921 I am an Imperial newbie, but I find it interesting that there are reissued documents for the EKI and EKII - was this common practice after the war? Are there many existing WWI doc sets out there? I haven't seen many groupings like the plentiful WWII Kriegsmarine doc sets. Here is the Uboots-Kriegabzeichen doc
    11. Thank you all, Gentlemen! There certainly are a few dollars worth of badges in that plate, Gordon. Since the crew members are wearing the Matrosenmütze (i.e. early war), there might be a good chance that all of those badges were fire-gilded tombak...
    12. Here's a picture I just picked up at the SOS of U-Boat badges being awarded. The gloved Leutnant has the next badge to be awarded in his hand while the Kapitänleutnant extends his hand. Nice batch of badges!
    13. Sto and Richard - thanks for showing your great plaques! Martin - happy hunting for that HK piece. Erik
